Since 2009, every February 20th, we have recognized the United Nations observance known as “World Day of Social Justice”. The purpose of the day is to focus on the plight of social injustice throughout the world and to press for improvements and solutions. Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. We uphold the principles of social justice when we promote gender equality, or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability. 🌍 Tracing CHOGM's Commitment to Progress 🌍 The journey towards equality for LGBTI+ individuals in the Commonwealth is a story of both progress and persistent challenges. While significant strides have been made in some regions - such as decriminalising same-sex relationships and enacting anti-discrimination laws - many Commonwealth nations continue to uphold colonial-era laws that criminalise LGBTI+ identities and behaviours. Over the years, CHOGM has been a platform for advancing crucial issues like human rights, gender equality, and youth empowerment. Where there is a failure by the body to notify the Equality Body, the Equality Body can seek action from the institution that has a supervisory function in relation to that body. The article addresses the severe issue of gender-based violence in South Asia, highlighting its prevalence and the various forms it takes, including domestic violence, honor killings, acid attacks, and child marriage. It discusses the deep-rooted cultural factors contributing to this violence and the significant impact it has on women’s physical and emotional well-being. Despite efforts by NGOs, IGOs, and governments, the problem persists, posing a significant challenge to the development and prosperity of the region. UNEG Guidance on Integrating Human Rights and Gender Equality in Evaluations https://lnkd.in/euPuSc-V This document is an update of the 2014 guidance and was developed by the UNEG Working Group on Gender Equality, Disability Inclusion and Human Rights. This updated version is intended to guide evaluations and evaluation managers to undertake evaluations that are responsive to the needs of all individuals and communities by embracing the principle of "Leave No One Behind". It also considers now approaches in the incorporation of human rights principles, gender equality and the inclusion of other groups in vulnerable situations in evaluations. Consequently, this updated Guidance document reflects evolving practice, needs and lessons.
