What can Hollywood learn from games and vice versa? We (Baobab Studios) love being the bridge between the 2. I had a thoughtful panel discussion at GamesBeat Summit 2024 with Joshua Yguado (CEO Jam City), Derek Douglas (Head of the Games Creative Artists Agency), and Peter Y. Levin (MD Griffin Gaming Partners), about: • How Hollywood can learn more from games other than licensing their IP eg, integrating the audience into the experience, enhancing social connections. Also vice versa for story and characters. • Will games reach saturation the way comics supposedly have? No. Games are more accessible than comics, more discoverable, engaging broader audiences over broader genres. We engage with these experiences with our friends, creating meaningful memories beyond just the content. We keep coming up with new indie titles that become huge hits the same way authors keep writing books - i don't think people will become sick of book adaptations. • Hollywood directors and audiences who are coming of age now, grew up playing games and have respect for the IP that previous generations didn't quite understand. Games are mainstream. • How Josh's Harry Pottery game is the best ever :) I discussed how Baobab Studios built our transmedia storytelling approach from the ground up. Our games, like the Momoguro series with over 21 million plays on Roblox, were always envisioned to become TV shows https://lnkd.in/gQSzxbxt). The same goes for our 2 Disney+ series "Witchverse" (https://lnkd.in/gRNVDSsG), which we originated in VR, and "Intercats," a graphic novel collaboration with Macmillan (https://lnkd.in/g4r4j6YX) and our just released yesterday Penguin Random House series: The Magic Paintbrush https://lnkd.in/gk4k7xsA The future of entertainment lies at the intersection of games and Hollywood. By embracing the interactive/engaging power of games, the storytelling genius of Hollywood, we can unlock a new era of emotionally resonant experiences for audiences worldwide.
