The book offers practical tools and techniques to improve AR performance, reduce your risks, and increase cash flow. We also discussed why managing AR is not a finance problem, but rather a cross-functional challenge that requires collaboration and alignment among sales, operations, customer services and finance teams. Simon introduced us to the virtue of proactive customer service calls, effective root cause analysis and discrepancy management process that improve customer intimacy. This was a fun and an engaging Continuous Improvement break-out session for our teams!

Checking the claims in retailers' audits is a complex issue - data has limited accessibility, retailers' reporting windows won't always line up with yours as a supplier, and the time and effort required to stay on top of all this takes you away from focusing on your current and future issues. For most finance teams, making sure you've not lost profit to historical claims isn't realistic. Dealing with these issues is literally a full time job for me and my team. It's important that we're in a position to audit every day (staying in this position is multiple peoples' full time jobs thanks to the complexity of the data at hand). It's important that we constantly innovate to be more efficient and eliver higher quality work (this is multiple people's full time jobs given the constant flux and complexity of FMCG deals). How much profit are people letting slip?
