Vice President Defense EMEA | Do Good - Serve Others - Change the World ▪︎ Veteran ▪︎ Keynote Speaker
KISS. The single most impactfull military abbreviation. "Keep it Simple Stupid" In tech industry, we often talk about AI/ML, IAM, GPUs, VM's, Kubernetes, and so on. However, for 95% of military personnel, these terms are meaningless. So why do we keep using them? The ultimate business of military organizations is the conduct of military operations. This translates to achieving operational effects on the battlefield. It means bringing resources—intelligence, people, and material—together at a specific point in time and place to create a desired effect. At the center of this is the soldier, pilot, sailor, commander. They need accurate information and the best tools to get the job done. And this all boils down to one critical element: #data. To benefit from real-time, accurate, and correlated data, a secure, reliable, and resilient infrastructure with user-friendly and robust tools is essential. This is where companies like Oracle step in, providing the technology and infrastructure needed to ensure that military personnel have the data they need, when and where they need it. By focusing on what truly matters on the battlefield, we can bridge the gap between complex tech jargon and the real-world needs of our military forces. #veterans and #defense industry experts, you have 1 mission : KISS.

"What excites me most in the defense-tech innovation space is the current advancement and implementation of AI/ML solutions across the United States Department of Defense (DoD). During my 21 years as a military intelligence professional in the US Army, I found that a common element in all my assignments was the extensive amount of reading and research required to thoroughly understand the operational environment of my unit—a process known in the intel industry as Intelligence Preparation of the Operational Environment. Intel analysts must sift through thousands of reports from various sources, transforming information into intelligence to provide decision-makers with accurate analytical assessments of potential threats. The stakes are high, as the lives of Service Members operating in hostile environments depend on our assessments. The advancements in AI/ML not only promise to help intel professionals perform their tasks more quickly and accurately but also enhance operational success." Lilia Barrera is a Retired US Army Cpt and currently serves as VP, Operations for The Outpost. #DefenseTech #MilitaryInnovation #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #USArmyVeteran #MilitaryIntelligence #DoDInnovation #IntelligencePreparation #AIinDefense

If you ask that guy in the picture what his PACE plan is he'd rattle it off like Lil' Wayne describing how a G moves. What if the picture isn't of some has-been team leader commanding 12 people over a decade ago and is instead of a SOTF commander in 2025 sitting in a dark CP waiting for an intel report that can't come because fiber was cut outside? That guy in the picture could run all operations by voice for his 12 person team, a GCC absolutely cannot run ops by voice for thousands of members across potentially dozens of countries. What are you going to do when fiber gets cut, enemy EW interferes, some engineer takes down cloudfront, or any myriad scenario that cuts you off from the rest of the world? The cloud has transformed our idea of what Govtech is and could be, but top levels of command can't sit back and expect persistent cloud connection to their critical services. The cloud isn't an answer to everything when you're in the defense business; you need to carefully consider how to weave together cloud and on-prem infrastructure in a way that ensures a continuity of operations for a reasonable amount of time. I could wax poetic on the topic like nobody's business but LinkedIn doesn't need more one-way conversations on anything. What are you curious about when it comes to the cloud and how to handle failure scenarios? #army #marinecorps #airforce #navy #socom #govtech #dod #softwaredevelopment #software #softwareengineering #devsecops #devops

Australia’s spy agencies and military commanders will accelerate their use of artificial intelligence to analyse vast datasets under a $2bn contract with a US tech giant to create a top secret cloud computing network. Three secure data centres and two control centres will be built at undisclosed locations under the deal with Amazon Web Services – the world’s biggest cloud computing provider. They will be air-gapped from the internet, accessible only by those with appropriate security clearances, and be operational by mid-2027. The system will give the Australian Defence Force and Australia’s 10 intelligence agencies access to AWS’s evolving suite of AI tools, which are used by an array of US partners including the Pentagon and intelligence agencies. https://lnkd.in/dr9Ri9U9
