Over 6 years of recruiting at loanDepot, there are two things that new hires tell me they are really glad they moved for. 1. Our UW team - They are accessible, solution-oriented, collaborative. We have minimal overlays and a large credit box to help get more loans done and serve more of the community. 2. They have more time in their day - More often than not, I am told that our platform and support teams allow for a 25-30% efficiency gain. Imagine getting 25% of your time back. Spoke with a Recruiting Branch Manager here at loanDepot yesterday. We discussed what it means to be intentional about building a team. This includes: --Daily commitment to making calls (calendar blocked, no excuses) --Having a follow up plan for after you talk to someone (what to send, setting next steps, etc.) --Articulating the value that you bring to a Loan Originator (how do you earn their business?) --Developing a clear growth plan with milestones to monitor and ensure progress (30/90/180/365) --Finding Loan Originators that buy-in to that plan and believe that you can help them achieve their goals If you're not committed to these things, you're making the same pitch about tech, products, support and rates that everyone else is making, counting on "good timing," and taking what you can get. Not a recipe for building a cohesive and loyal team that will grow over time. Get intentional, be specific, have a plan, and execute. Interesting observation, we've (loanDepot) have had a major uptick in people coming back to the company. Quality producers and leaders alike. Lots of, "their systems were way over promised." "Culturally not the same". Some of these folks admitted, the offers that were in the industry when margins/volumes were insanely high, absolutely impacted their decision to leave more so than a deficient platform. I'd love to say the rebounds are only a loanDepot thing, and it's simply because we are great, but I'm seeing the same type of announcements from a few other companies I know are high executors in the business. People going back to them after a small detour to other franchises. As a competitive SOB I've literally lost sleep watching companies outgrow me with offers that made no sense from a profitability perspective. Having producers state, "it's so much money I have to take it". I'm curious, is this rebound hiring in high quality organizations a blip, or a sign that the mercenary approach to the business could be coming to an end. A flight to quality? A company’s value to originators shouldn’t only be a shiny object… The piece of tech, the in-house studio, etc. Of course those are nice pieces to have. But they are just that… pieces.
