On Presidents' Day, we honor the leaders who have shaped the course of our nation's history. Among them stands Abraham Lincoln, whose wisdom and leadership continue to inspire generations. As we reflect on Lincoln's legacy, let us remember his timeless words: "Whatever you are, be a good one." These simple yet profound words remind us of the importance of integrity, dedication, and striving for excellence in all that we do. Today, let's celebrate not only the accomplishments of past presidents but also the ideals and values that unite us as a nation. May we always aspire to uphold the principles of freedom, equality, and justice for all. #PresidentsDay #UnitedWeStand #OperatorSolutions #OSRescue

Working a lot with US clients, I have been sympathising with them about the turn of the year. Because 2024 is an election year, and the vitriol and division are already beginning ahead of the vote in November. I sympathise with them because it looks like they have the same choice as last time: Biden or Trump. It was an uninspiring choice last time and it looks even worse this time. It's my naive hope that a shining hero is going to come over the horizon soon and offer something better. Someone like a Kennedy figure who looks and sounds like a leader (and no, not the actual Kennedy who is going to run this year). When John Fitzgerald Kennedy was elected in 1960, he became a symbol of the decade of change that the 60s would become. His speeches were optimistic and aspirational, and if Martin Luther King didn't exist, it would probably be one of his speeches that would've won the title of speech of the 20th Century. You might not agree with Kennedy's policies, or his transgressions in his personal life, but you've got to admit the man had style. JFK had a trademark delivery and clever wordplay that set him apart from not just other US Presidents, but other speakers in history. The speech where this is usually remembered most is his inauguration speech in 1961. You can hear his Massachusetts accent in your head as you read the line: "Ask not what your country can do for you...". But the speech is more than just that line. What makes it such a memorable and admired speech? I have broken down the speech in an analysis video, outlining the different factors that make this such an engaging speech. I also gave myself the challenging task of trying to offer some suggestions that would've made the speech even better. I'm pleased with the few I managed to come up with! Watch this video to learn how to deliver one of the speeches of the century. #publicspeaking #speeches #leadership

Our standards are what set us apart. We have 12 of them, but why? 🤔 History tells us that in battle the standard bearer was a vital part of a soldier’s unit. More than simply a flag for people to follow, the standard symbolised the values, beliefs, and ideas the soldiers stood for; should the standard bearer fall it was paramount they were replaced. 🤝 At Grierson Dickens, our standards represent who we are and what we do and demonstrate the values on which GDL has been built. They are what all employees strive for each day, and this is something that continues in our new era as an Employee-Owned business. 👨💼 For the next 12 months, we will be featuring one standard each month, sharing why this standard is significant, and the value it brings to relationships that we build with clients, professional connections, and colleagues. More to follow next week... ✏
