Now that I have found a new position, I can speak more freely. It was very frustrating conducting my job search and not being able to get past the phone screen or not being considered a “fit.” When I spoke with others about my job search, they refused to believe me. There are a dearth of programmers, but even as a lead programmer, I wasn’t worthy of an interview, most times. I ask that you hiring managers please stop looking for a certain type and give those that are “different” a shot. Thankfully, I found a company that sees my value and is happy to have me. #jobsearch #interviewing
I can echo other's comments here about the frustrations of online job searching & bots, etc. Online hunting should be easier not harder! That and poor application processes that have you submit a resume, fill out an online application asking for info that's already on your resume, then a paper app if you get an interview, asking for the same info you gave them twice, electronically!
Agree. Ive been told I wasn't a good fit when my resume and experience were exactly what the job req was looking for. Congrats on your success in finding a position.
Yeah the HR screening is more complex and the fact a bot and not a human get the first glance of your resume somewhat bothers me but I learned how to implement keywords. Congrats on your new job!
Well said! Couldn’t agree more.
The problem is not just the hiring managers, but the use of bots to screen applicants.
True. Absolutely.
Congratulations
I agree with your comments Anthony, aside from the "dearth of programmers". The relationship between hiring managers and potential employees seems to be at an all time low. To make matters worse, online submission when applying for a job is obtrusive, abrasive, and unwelcome in the world of working professionals. I really miss the days of knocking on a door and asking for a job. During the 1990's hiring managers not only seem to have people skills, but a seemingly genuine care for the people they interviewed. These days if you check the wrong box on a web form your resume is never even considered. As an information technology specialist I simply ignore companies that have a horrible job application web site.

5yHappy Friday Anthony :) I just wanted to add a shout out for indeed.com. Amazingly I've been able to submit my resume to a few companies without having to signup or join the website. Definitely a step in the right direction and I'm sure before too long I'll end up joining the website simply to show my support for their hassle free job application process.
