Olympian | Scientist | Sustainability Leadership | Executive Coach | Speaker on Building Resilience and Succeeding Against the Odds
This strategy - committing to focus only on the things within your control - is the most powerful way to accelerate results! When you're executing a project, every moment you spent dwelling on something you are not in control of, is a distraction that sucks your energy away. We had only two months to climb the world ranking from #73 to #23 in order to qualify for the #Olympics - there were 50 other teams ahead of us, who had played the sport longer, had more funding, coaching, and we had never beaten before... what allowed us to surpass them, against all odds, is this commitment we made to focus all of our available energy ONLY on the things we could control. Thank you LinkedIn News for bringing this story to life! I continue to share these lessons with corporate groups focused on accelerating results and I'm especially grateful to bring this solution-focused methodology to our work at Climate Executive Coaching, where it's imperative to help #sustainability leaders implement initiatives with speed and scale! The #climatecrisis odds may be stacked against us but there are so many powerful climate solutions unfolding all over the world - from the The Earthshot Prize to the work of the Bezos Earth Fund, GivePower and countless other initiatives! The #Olympics is such a galvanizing movement: pursuing that goal pushed me to develop skills I didn't know I had inside of me and taught me that even in the most dire moments, we have #agency - the capacity to make a choice in a defining moment that resets the trajectory of our lives! Thank you the production team at #CATALYST - Producer/Director Julia Lull, Graphics Michael Pisano, Sound Design John Parthum, Cinematography Alexis Duran and everyone who made this video happen! *Distractions* stand between you and your goals. Identify yours and eliminate them from your life. This strategy took beach volleyball player Lina Taylor, OLY to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the 2004 Olympics in Athens. “What was the thing that stood in the way between us even believing that it was possible to play in the Olympics?,” Taylor recalls asking herself. The answer, she discovered upon reflection, wasn’t the 50 other teams she was competing against. It was the ranking itself. She and her partner (her sister Petia Taylor), decided to not look at the rankings until qualifications were over. Taylor says this allowed them to only focus on what they could control. Long story short, they made it. What’s your biggest distraction? Are you prepared to cut it out of your life? Drop a comment below. Helping top Business Leaders, Athletes and Musicians reach their Maximum potential. | Global Performance Coach | Motivational Speaker | Creator of Beating The Demons System
We are usually are biggest competitor. We start focusing on things that are out of our control vs being present and moving through our process which is what’s going to get us close is if not to the outcome we desire. However, there is a process to understanding and developing the skills to be able to do these things. Generally someone can’t just tell you all of this and you go, oh ok, right. Let me change that. These thoughts and way of moving through things is embedded in us and society. In a relatively short amount of time you can learn how to get out of your own way, understand how to let go of what’s out of your control, and be present so you can move though the process.

“Be okay with being uncomfortable” - Kristen Nuss, Team USA Beach Volleyball As the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics approach, we spoke with two Beach Volleyball players who will be competing, Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth. Kristen and Taryn share their journey in becoming star athletes, how they take downtime, and hacks for teamwork. Our top 3️⃣ learnings are: 1) Communication: In order to make your team as efficient and effective as possible, prioritize communication! 2) Self Doubt: It’s normal to doubt yourself, but if you keep your feelings of self doubt to yourself, they’ll only grow. Share your doubts with people you trust, gain advice, and support. Sharing your self doubt will help you feel uplifted. 3) Spend Time Together: In order to grow your bond and trust as a team, spend time together outside of work or training. Become friends, learn about one another, and trust in each other. The full interview is now live, with video available on Spotify.
