Transportation Area Manager, Flight Chief, Certified Scrum Master, Project Manager, avid reader, book reviewer, and so much more...
Yesterday, I had the privilege of volunteering at the Allegheny County Food Bank, where our team packed 960 boxes of essential food items for senior citizens in our community. This experience was not only fulfilling but also a vivid reflection of the values I embrace daily at Amazon. 📦 **Customer Obsession**: Each box was packed with the understanding that we're not just sending food; we're sending care, nutrition, and respect to those who need it most. 🔗 **Ownership**: Taking ownership of our collective goal, each volunteer was integral in ensuring we met our target. It was a powerful reminder that every effort counts, no matter the scale. 🔄 **Invent and Simplify**: We streamlined the packing process, implementing a simple assembly line that maximized efficiency and minimized wait times. Innovation isn't just for the workplace; it thrives wherever there's a need. 👫 **Hire and Develop the Best**: Working alongside volunteers from diverse backgrounds, it was clear that a community thrives when it leverages varied skills towards a common good. 🎯 **Deliver Results**: The goal was ambitious, but so was our commitment. Packing 960 boxes meant 960 opportunities to make a difference, and we delivered. This experience was a powerful reminder of how the principles that guide us professionally also resonate in our community contributions. I am proud to be part of a team that not only supports, but encourages us to give back. Here’s to making a difference, one box at a time! #Volunteering #CommunityService #LeadershipInAction #AmazonLeadershipPrinciples #DeliveringSmiles Amazon

There's a lot to learn from food banks when it comes to digital fundraising and advocacy! I wrote about what we saw from the sector in the M+R 2024 Benchmarks -- Food Banks Edition and how food banks and other organizations can use this data to bolster their online fundraising and advocacy efforts for the M+R blog. On Wednesday, Feeding America's Research & Innovation department released our annual Map the Meal Gap study. Food insecurity exists in every county, parish and congressional district in this nation, but it isn’t experienced equally. Food insecurity levels vary across regions, influenced by factors like unemployment and poverty rates as well as policies and practices rooted in history that continue to hold people back today. Eight out of 10 counties with the highest rate of food insecurity are in the South. Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. And racial disparities persist, with significant variations in food insecurity rates across different racial and ethnic groups and geographic locations. You can explore the data in your community at map.feedingamerica.org. I encourage you to learn about the impact of hunger in your community. Spark conversations around the systemic factors that drive food insecurity then join the movement to end hunger through your local foodbank like the ones in the communities I've called home: Mississippi Food Network: https://www.msfoodnet.org/ Community Foodbank of Central Alabama: https://feedingal.org/ Mid-Ohio Food Collective: https://mofc.org/ Chicago Food Depository: https://lnkd.in/gbJeEiKg Help us create a future where we all have access to the food and resources we need to thrive. #EndHunger

Your organization can make a meaningful difference today fighting hunger in our community. You may have seen The Ottawa Mission's food trucks in neighborhoods like Westboro, Carlington, and Little Italy, bringing vital support far beyond our downtown shelter. These trucks aren’t just about meals—they’re about hope. With grocery prices soaring by 22% and rent increasing 20% since 2020, many people in our city are being forced to make the impossible choice between shelter and food. The Ottawa Mission’s food truck program is helping to ease that burden, serving thousands of meals weekly in 38 underserved communities across Ottawa. One grateful food truck client shared, “The price of everything is going up. I’m 70 and retired...I need these meals to get by.” Your support today can directly impact the neighborhoods where your employees and clients live, work, and thrive. By partnering with The Ottawa Mission, you’re not just providing meals—you’re investing in the well-being of our community. Learn more about how your organization can get involved. Together, we can nourish our city. #CorporateResponsibility #OttawaCommunity #SupportLocal #TheOttawaMission #MoreThanAShelter

Yesterday, the Research and Innovation team at Feeding America released Map the Meal Gap, our annual study on local food insecurity. And the news is sobering. Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Some key findings from our most recent study include: 🔸 Food insecurity impacts communities in every county, parish, and congressional district in the U.S. 🔸 Child food insecurity rates can reach almost 50% in some counties. 🔸 Eight out of 10 high food insecurity counties are in the South, indicating regional disparities. 🔸 Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. With this in mind, it is critical that we recognize that the numbers only tell us one part of the story. Each data point - each of the 44 million individuals experiencing food insecurity - represents real people struggling. By illuminating the scope of the problem in your hometown, we hope that it will raise awareness and drive you to ask questions. Why does one of the wealthiest nations in the world have one in six people experiencing food insecurity? How is it that during a global pandemic there were fewer people experiencing food insecurity then there are now? Who are the people you interact with day-to-day that may be struggling to put food on the table? And perhaps most importantly, what can you do to change things? Every year, Feeding America conducts an extensive report called Map the Meal Gap, collecting data on individuals in every county in the US to determine the national state of food insecurity. Data from 2022 was just released, and in Harvesters' service area, 1 in 8 people (12.4%) are experiencing food insecurity, up from 1 in 11 the previous year. For children, that number is 1 in 6.
