Can a struggling business be saved ? Early in my career, I was comfortably leading high-profile campaigns for an iconic local brand. Then, an opportunity came to join a new international brand that was just starting out in Singapore. As their first and only marketer in Singapore, I faced an immense challenge: an unknown brand with a product unfamiliar to locals. Visiting the stores, it felt like a scene from the Walking Dead, greeted by a store manager and empty seats at lunch time 😱 With the business in the red, we need to turn things around. Fast. My colleague and I, spent hours analyzing performance and exploring every aspect of our business. Yet, it became clear that what we truly needed was a transformation of mindset. Could we truly believe in winning? Could we turn things around? 💡We had a breakthrough when I saw the potential to empower store managers with a marketing mindset. Changing their mindset was challenging, as they came from non-marketing backgrounds. I too had to change my mindset and believe that they could do. To prove this point, I partnered with three struggling stores in putting together a strategy to turn around their business. They studied their trade area and I coached them on the side. I was so pleased that they put together a strong plan, rallied their team members and built a connection with the community. 🔥 Because of that, seats began filling up. They achieved extraordinary and turn their business to green! 🔥 Like wild fire, other stores requested for similar training. Over time, I trained over 100 store managers in building a scalable local store marketing strategy. 🔥 The most rewarding part was seeing their wins and seeing the restaurants full of buzz. I was even asked to co-lead the training for other markets. Many thanks to the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) and the Computer Society for hosting this really interesting event called "From Me to We: Understanding Personalities for Better Collaboration and Conflict Resolution." I finally got to meet Sam Neo (who I have been following on LinkedIn for a long time) and to hear from some of Singapore's HR leaders, including ANNIE LIM, Cyl Lin and Alvin Aloysius Goh (MSHRI, MCIPD, MSID, IHRP-SP).
