🚨BREAKING🚨 President Biden's unconscionable executive order today embraces extremist talking points, encourages anti-immigrant rhetoric and violence, and will further endanger the lives of people seeking safety. “Being able to access legal protection when fleeing persecution should not be subject to an arbitrary cap based on the number of people suffering and seeking refuge at our doors on a given week. All people deserve a chance at safety. Unless his Administration reverses course, President Biden will have blood on his hands.”—Karen Tumlin JAC's full statement ➡ https://lnkd.in/dDc64AZW

I'm a victim. boohoo **Moving Forward: The Need to Overcome 2017's Information Deadlock** In an era dominated by information, one would think that the abundance of knowledge from the past would serve as a stepping stone for progress. Yet, when we look at the political landscape, especially in American politics, it appears as though we are in a state of stagnation. The year 2017 has become emblematic of this stasis, serving as a reference point for countless investigations and political maneuvers. But does focusing on events from half a decade ago truly serve the present moment and the future? The past, while instructive, should not be a shackle. It is essential to learn and grow from historical events, but there is a fine line between taking lessons from the past and becoming ensnared by it. The constant revisiting of information from 2017, and the years surrounding it, has created a paralysis in decision-making and forward momentum. This deadlock is glaringly evident in the American political arena. Instead of policy-making, resource allocation, and striving for the betterment of its citizens, the primary focus seems to be on unearthing and scrutinizing events from years ago. While accountability is crucial, it should not come at the cost of progress and the well-being of the present-day populace. The American people, now more than ever, need their leaders to look ahead. The world is rapidly evolving, and the challenges of today and tomorrow require fresh approaches, untethered from the issues of yesteryears. To truly serve the nation and its citizens, it is imperative for leaders to strike a balance between learning from the past and being anchored by it. The focus should shift from a preoccupation with 2017 to an emphasis on the present moment and the future that awaits #MoveBeyond2017 #PoliticalProgressNow #FutureFocusedPolitics #UnshackleThePast #ForwardMomentum #PresentOverPast #AmericaEvolving #PolicyOverPolitics #LeadersForTomorrow #LearnAndGrow #BeyondDeadlock #ActionOverInvestigation #ServeThePresent #EyesOnTheHorizon #AccountabilityAndGrowth #TimeForChange #RebuildTheFuture #riseup #Riseupwithrobby #RobbyWells2024 Robby Wells

Today, June 26, is the United Nations Day in Recognition of Victims of Torture. For almost 20 years, the St. Louis Partnership for Survivors of Torture has worked directly with survivors, their families, and communities, to mitigate the lasting effects of these crimes against humanity. Our successes are modest compared to the scale of the problem. Torture persists as a weapon of war and persecution, and - along with war crimes in general - seems like it's being normalized as just another part of any armed conflict. So what to do? Start here: ****Support survivors in their journey to address the trauma of their experience. ****Stand up for asylum as a legal right for those fleeing torture and persecution. ****Pressure governments to back up their condemnations of human rights abuses with actions. ****Stay outraged, stay engaged, and push back against the normalization of acts that are illegal everywhere.

The reality of this world and governance explained. Those who are unwilling to govern their own passions and tendencies towards corruption become rebellious to actual government. If they are in government, they corrupt it and their own nation after having first corrupted themselves. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Nothing is hidden. As for people so too for the nations. Two months on, and the voices for Gaza remain strong. It’s heartening to see continuous demonstrations for justice outside the White House. This fight against normalizing the ongoing crisis in Gaza is crucial. In my personal struggle, I’ve been tirelessly working to evacuate my family from the area. Just last night, we had a viable plan to bring my 23-year-old niece, her doctor husband, and their 4-month-old baby to safety. Tragically, our efforts were thwarted when communications were cut off by Israeli forces. For three agonizing days, we’ve been in the dark, not knowing if they are safe, or even alive. This is the reality for countless families in Gaza. They desperately need our voices and advocacy. Standing in solidarity, raising awareness, and demanding action is vital. The people of Gaza, including my family, need the international community to speak out and act. We must not forget them. We will never stop fighting for justice. #StandWithJustice #GazaUnderAttack #JusticeForAll
Earlier this week I was proud and humbled to stand with former colleagues from across the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government as they stood vigil outside the White House to mourn the losses of so many innocent civilians, and to call on President Biden to demand a ceasefire. When civil servants have to stand outside the White House gates in the hope of their voices being heard by the President, it demonstrates the complete dysfunction of the internal policymaking process, and the complete failure of the internal dissent channels. And when civil servants - good men and women who have committed their lives to the service of the American people - have to hide their identities to speak out on a policy issue in order to maintain their jobs, it also underlines the ferocity of the censorship and animosity towards this most humanitarian cause that we are seeing across this country today. UK Channel 4 was at the vigil, and spoke with some of us about these issues:

At YWCA,we believe in a world of justice, where all people — particularly women and girls — are safe and free from violence. The violence that erupted this week in the Middle East – including reports of violence committed against civilian women, the elderly, children and babies – leaves no doubt that this vision of justice, safety, and freedom from violence has been shattered for millions. We are particularly concerned for the women and girls who are trapped during this escalating violence. Women and girls living in conflict zones face a greater threat of gender-based violence and are frequently the targets of rape and other sexual violence by armed combatants, in direct violation of internationally recognized human rights standards. YWCA USA condemns any actions that violate essential human rights standards in the strongest possible terms. We call on all engaged in this conflict to ensure that women, children, the most vulnerable and those providing humanitarian aid are protected from threats of violence and violence against them. As we continue to monitor the situation, we remain steadfast in our mission of eliminating racism, empowering all women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Even after 76 years of our existence and having suffered mutilation of our strong economic arm in 1971, the country’s ship is desperately navigating storm after storm amidst mountainous waves of uncertainty with no secure harbor in sight. We have yet not been successful in establishing a sustainable mode of governance, constantly experimenting with different types that end up mostly in hybrid forms of democracy and dictatorship. Whether it is military or parliamentary, governments have been observed to take on a tyrannical approach where opposition (both public and elected members) is subdued with force; where dissident voices are silenced and where any spark of criticism is translated into rebellion and treason. What ensues later is a long list of missing persons, arrests, detentions, false cases and most tragic of all, extra-judicial killings, or rather, murders. https://lnkd.in/dPU6SUm6
