In the past, cancer was a taboo topic within the black community, often left unspoken and individuals battled it alone, hidden from friends and loved ones. The pain of discovering their struggles only at funerals was heartbreaking. I recall a time when we lost five women to cancer in our community, their diagnoses hidden, and their isolation profound. The Oladele Foundation has transformed this narrative, eradicating secrecy and fostering a supportive environment. Their unparalleled care has instilled hope and resilience, uniting cancer patients and survivors, addressing their needs, and fostering a community of love and support. Attending gatherings hosted by the Oladele Foundation, I've witnessed the profound impact firsthand. Survivors share their stories, revealing tales of survival and triumph. One such story moved me deeply – a young lady, once silent about her battle, now a survivor thanks to the Foundation's unwavering support. However, learning about the Foundation's funding struggles was disheartening. The thought of their vital services being compromised saddened me. Their work is indispensable, bringing solace and strength to countless families. I urge corporations, organizations, and governments to rally behind the Oladele Foundation, ensuring its continuity and efficacy. Allocating a portion of donations, akin to initiatives like CIBC's, would be transformative, significantly impacting survival rates in the black community. Let us unite in support of the Oladele Foundation, ensuring they can continue their invaluable work. I’m inspired by the group of incredible individuals around me; by the young professionals doing incredible things in their careers and still dedicating time and effort to raise money for an incredible cause. The passion and stories across the entire ABOA group have motivated me, beyond my own personal loss of both of my grandmothers to cancer. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member? Skyline!!! The best event of the year and such a fun time to show friends outside of the ABOA the incredible work we do. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? Every year seeing the money I raise, and getting to tell my friends how their donations and attendance helped me get there. If you could have dinner with 3 living celebrities (all together), who would they be? Beyoncé, Adam Sandler, and Sabrina Carpenter What is the best book you've ever read? Be a chameleon in life and at work- take the best characteristics of those around you and act them, while avoiding those that don’t fit for you.

In just a few short weeks I’ve raised $2,300 for LLS with a goal to raise $10,000 before Light The Night on October 26th. While this might seem like just a small piece of the $1.7 billion LLS has invested in cancer research, my goal has the potential to provide an impact in multiple ways. What we raise in the next few days can make a year-long impact for blood cancer patients struggling with the cost of cancer. The rumours are true. I will be doing some exercise in 2024. Pedalling 24 miles, climbing Snowdon and then kyaking Llyn Padarn. Will I make it? Who knows... One thing I do know is that it is all for a brilliant cause Muscular Dystrophy UK. We use our muscles to move, walk, eat, sleep, smile and cry. To pump blood around our bodies. To breathe in and out.
