🎉 Hackathon completed! 🎉 A data science problem was solved in nine different ways by participants across the organization. Hackathons are “competitions” in which multiple people look for solutions to the same problem for a defined period of time. (In this case, “competitions” with apostrophes because our hackathons are all about learning and not so much about competing.) For the project that sets the problem, they offer - New perspectives - Different approaches tested in practice - Possibly more workforce than usually For participants, they offer - Opportunities to learn individually and from others - Cross-team interaction and networking - A refreshing change in the work content for a fixed time - An exciting hunt for solutions 🙂 Many submitted solutions had similar components but none of them was exactly the same. Several of them had out-of-the box approaches that the project team hadn’t consider before, but will definitely look into in the near future. Now it’s time to dive deeper into the solutions and see which elements best fit the needs of the product being developed. Many thanks to all participants and organizers for making the event a success!

Not long ago, I embarked on a journey to construct my "Ikigai," a concept that encouraged me to explore my passions, understand what the world requires from me, identify my strengths, and define my profession. This exploration led me to engaging and enriching experiences, including my participation in the Applied Data Science Program's Hackathon Challenge, which was themed "Leveraging AI for Effective Decision-Making." Through this challenge, I honed my data science skills and had the privilege of connecting with outstanding professionals in the field. Although I recognize that there is much more to learn and many more obstacles to overcome, I am eager to continue on this path and embrace the challenges that lie ahead. #MIT #datascientist #pythonprogramming

🏆 First Place at the MIT Applied Data Science Hackathon! 🏆 I am thrilled to announce that our 'TGV' team secured the first place at the MIT Applied DS Hackathon! 🥇 It's been an incredible journey collaborating with George Phinoson and Stéphane D'AMICO and our combined efforts have truly paid off. Georges, Stéphane, your dedication, expertise, and teamwork were instrumental in achieving this success. This experience jumpstarted our expertise in deep learning, XGBOOST, LightGBM, RandomForest, not to mention exploratory data analysis (EDA), and handling missing values using KNN... We tackled all these techniques head-on and emerged victorious. 🎉 Congratulations to all the other 57 teams (each team with 1 - 3 participants) who took part in the hackathon! Your dedication made the competition even more exciting and challenging. 🏆 A special shoutout to the "Computer Says No" gang (Jonathan Gaag, priya roy and M Nass) for keeping us challenged throughout the competition! You fought with 8 different algorithms and finally hypertuned CATBOOST, the gap was so slim in the end! Also, let's not forget to acknowledge the impressive achievement of Soledad Santiago Carrada, who competed alone and arrived in 4th place! Soledad, your determination and skills are truly commendable. Furthermore, I must acknowledge the "Train Track" for keeping the tension and suspense alive until the last minute. Your competitive spirit added an extra thrill to the competition. #datascience #DATATHON #MITADSP #CLASS _OF_NOV'23 #Powerahead #greatlearning
