Slack, I hope you know how good your UX Writers are. They continue to put these small but super important moments of delight in interface copy. I'd argue there's no one doing this better right now. Here's the default copy for their new to-do list feature. <3 it!!!

Writing for Slack is one of the great joys of my career. It doesn’t hurt that the business calls out our voice/tone as a key competitive differentiator. Shout out to Stuart Lovinggood for always nailing these unexpected moments!

Agreed! I'm new to using Slack for work and I'm consistently impressed with the content design. And... did you go outside and catch some sun?

Slack famously based their ToV on TARS from Interstellar and honestly, I wish more apps would take inspiration from fictional robots (even HAL and Terminator would be fun in the right spot). I think sometimes we fixate so much on trying to make automated experimences ‘human’ we miss the huge creative potential of accepting they’re not. On that, if anyone wants to build a journey that bleeps sarcastically at you like R2D2 please hmu. Dream job.

I once started a huddle with someone and waited for a couple of minutes before ending it when they never joined. In my message feed with that person after I hung up it said, “you were in a huddle by yourself for 3 minutes. A productive meeting I’m sure.” That made me chuckle.

I think ux writing is the easiest place to sneak delight into ux itself, which sounds trite until you realize how few products invest in doing it. I agree that Slack does it better than most, which is especially important given the product itself. (Business comms software that everyone has to use, but folks might not be choosing to use.)

Ok, this got me to go check it out (I was using my DM chat to make to-do lists, maybe I'll try this for a week.

It's always nice to hear that Slack adds lightness and humanity to work. 💕 That's something we all work hard to do, and I'm lucky to have a team that is dedicated to their craft.

Oh I love this so much!!! A bit of joy in the UX can lift up a whole working population. I wish all the work software brought JOY. And HOPE. And FUN.
