Litigation - the practice group where most people go to have hands-on experience but where the expectations do not always match reality, especially in BigLaw at large firms. I speak (in the context of in-house roles) to a lot of Senior Associates who see that in retrospect, it would have been a great thing to go to a boutique in their 2-3rd year, to gain significant strategy, pleading & and hands-on experience. Litigation has a distinct characteristic of coming in waves and dispute practices were booming in 2023. As litigation finally ramps up, partners are finding it not only difficult to staff their cases with the appropriate number of associates,  but also hard to staff their cases with the appropriate teams of QUALITY associates.   The pandemic did  a number on the training of litigation associates, and it will be some time before they catch up to what the elite litigation partners need.
