I was struggling to record my face video in front of the camera because: 👉 Hard to talk properly by seeing my face 👉 Sometimes I couldn't remember the long script It ends up in a lot of retakes. So, I created this simple app to save my time while recording short-form videos. Recently I improved a little bit to make it user-friendly. 👉 Control transparency 👉 Minimize the overlay I wanna improve it further and share it with other creators too. So, I am thinking of adding more features (maybe with GPT) to save even more time in scripting and recording. Hey everyone, Avni here! Ever since I can remember, I've been driven by curiosity. Despite starting with a distaste for computers , I couldn't shake off the intrigue of what people were doing on their screens. How do you build apps? How do you make that button change color with just a few lines of code? Last year, I decided to dive into the world of tech to uncover the backstage magic . From learning SQL and Microsoft Power BI to diving into Python and C++, each step felt like unlocking a new level of understanding. Web development became my playground, and building my portfolio website was a proud moment that proved my perseverance paid off. Sure, JavaScript and React threw me some curveballs. It took me months to learn JavaScript, and even more months just to set up the React environment properly. But with every tear shed over coding frustrations, I gained a bucketload of patience(almost). Now, I'm knee-deep in crafting an e-commerce website using ReactJS, and I couldn't be more excited about the journey ahead. Being from a non-tech background has its challenges, but it hasn't stopped me from diving headfirst into this thrilling world. And let's not forget, content writing is also my forte! I'm open to feedback, hungry for knowledge, and eager to explore all the opportunities that come my way. Thanks to my insatiable curiosity, I've turned my intimidation into my forte. One really important trust-driven content design use case: the classic “404 screen.” I really love this treatment from the OpenTable app. It’s colloquial, but doesn’t try to be funny: “We lost you.” Remember: failure of a page load is by definition a frustrating experience, so using humor is a delicate proposition and you’d better be good at it. In this case, OpenTable doesn’t go for humor; they use natural common language, followed by healing suggestions. Matter-of-fact, down to business, helpful. One note: this also calls attention to how important it is to be able - if at all possible - to know what caused the failure. It’s something that’s easily dismissed as an unimportant lift for eng, but you hopefully can see how much more valuable (ie helpful) the messaging is if you’ve isolated the likely problem. One more note! Remember that colloquialisms in American English don’t necessarily translate well. You’ll need to localize the intent of the message for other languages. Again: good, problem-solving content takes an investment of care.

Emergency services use a version of this and text it to people who don’t have the app. It simply displays the what3words address of your exact location. We have released this version which is perfect to send to that friend or family member, or, in my case - the taxi driver you are trying to meet after a rugby game in the crowds outside Twickenham. It’s better to have the app as it works offline but if they don’t have it or are struggling, this is perfect. At just 25KB it’s designed to load even in areas with poor connectivity and it’s available in all 61 what3words languages. Tarpits are seemingly easy, unexplored ideas that typically result in failure. They lure founders in to work on them en masse, wondering why no one has ever thought of it before. But loads of people have. Their failures attracts other founders who also get stuck, boosting the size of the graveyard. “The reason it doesn't exist is not because no one has thought of it before. People think of it constantly. Which is not to say it's impossible. But before you try it, you have to be able to say why everyone else has failed.” (Paul Graham, Twitter) The danger of an idea like this is that it sounds plausible enough to seem worth working on, but not plausible enough to be worth investing in. The term comes from literal tarpits that attract animals who mistake it for water, only to meet their demise when they get can’t get out. Despite the warnings, I found the concept of a tarpit app fascinating from a design perspective. The typical verticalisation means there is an existing mental framework for understanding the product’s functionality. This familiarity can make the design process fun. Your users will have tried a marketplace app before (discovery apps are tarpits), so you can now get creative with design knowing you’ve got a lot of cognitive headroom because the bigger the tarpit, the greater the intercept of your average user’s learning curve. In this design, I made a ‘profile’ on a discovery app for electronic music producers. This mini project allowed me to dig into understanding the needs of potential users, play around with mobile design/interaction, and work through why this sort of product isn’t commercially viable. Fun for a challenge, bad for a business. “If your idea has been tried before, do your research and understand why it didn’t work. The newsletters we are subscribed to don't get opened and the blogs we have bookmarked are collecting dust in some folder. That is why I like the idea of daily.dev It's a hub that contains a personalised news feed related to technologies of your choice. I use it as a chrome extension, that way I always get a glance of the news while I am working and I can check out articles that seem interesting to me. I can save them for later, or even search for articles of a topic that I am interested in. There is also a community aspect to it if you enjoy that sort of thing. You can upvote and downvote post, leave comments and join communities.
