Hire, invest in and support the “messy” person… 👉🏾 The mom juggling the little kids AND pushing hard as an entrepreneur. 👉🏾 The person dealing with aging parents with healthcare issues AND trying to lead a global team. 👉🏾 The international employee with complex visa challenges AND working hard to stand out as a product manager. 👉🏾 The student who is battling mental health challenges AND trying to finish their degree. 👉🏾 The career pivoter who started as a teacher AND now wants to try their skills in a tech role. Why would you do that when you could just find someone without all the mess? Because if you design around the messiness, if you can solve for the hardest situations, if you understand the unique perspective of those who are messy and how they can help your organization innovate and grow, then you will create systems and a culture that can truly benefit all. I write this today as I rearranged my whole schedule to pick up my sick kid 5 hours earlier than expected. My life is 💯 messy. Many of my amazing entrepreneur, educator and corporate friends have lives that are 💯 messy. And you know what? We are all 💯 making an impact through our work. Let’s be open to the *AND*. Why I took a career break as a woman in her middle 30ies? I wanted to walk barefoot on the grass during the day! Just joking! Though, walking barefoot on the grass feels amazing! In reality, I was exhausted after many years of selfless work. I had to take care of my physical and mental health. And most of all, I needed time to think. I needed to figure out how I wanted to continue my life. I am in my 30ies now! What do I want to do? What would make me happy? So, I realized most of all I want 2 things: - To build my business - To write a book. To be honest with myself, my heart was always fond of those goals. But I kept persuading myself that I was not ready. However, YOU ARE NEVER READY UNTIL YOU ARE! And even though I am super scared, I hope I will have enough courage to pursue my goals. I put a lot of effort into shifting myself into an entrepreneur mindset! The thing is I still need an income source in this early stage of my journey. This is why instead of full-time positions, I’ve decided to focus on part-time opportunities. This way, I can bring value to someone, while also having enough time to figure it out with my own business. For me, that moment arrived in 2022, when I was still two years away from graduation. The weight of being dependent started to feel heavier each day, and I knew I had to do something about it. I began applying for remote jobs, hoping to earn a living despite my location. But what I encountered was a flood of rejections, even for the most basic roles. I wasn’t alone in this struggle. Many around me were facing the same challenges—qualified, eager to work, yet constantly met with closed doors. It wasn’t just a personal problem; it was a systemic issue. That’s when I noticed the first gap: people who wanted to work couldn’t find opportunities. Then I saw the other side of the coin: startups and mid-sized businesses needed help but were often discouraged by the costs of hiring. They wanted to grow, to innovate, but were held back by the financial burden. There was a disconnect, a problem on both sides that desperately needed a solution. Driven by these observations, I dove into research and discovered the world of outsourcing. It was like a lightbulb moment. I realized that outsourcing could bridge this gap, providing opportunities for those eager to work while helping businesses grow without the heavy costs. And so, Client’N’Customer Solutions was born. Client’N’Customer Solutions isn’t just a company; it’s my brainchild, born out of a desire to solve real problems using the technology we have today, and to develop new solutions where technology falls short. Our core value is simple yet powerful: to benefit the masses. Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing more about Client’N’Customer Solutions this vision that I’m so proud to carry forward. As a founder, I’m looking forward to writing job descriptions. Yes, I write this entirely sober. While we’re growing, I’m dreaming of a different kind of JD. It’s going to go something like this: YOU QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION IF… 1. The thought of this job makes you both so excited and skeptical at the same time that you go find the founder and team on LI to see if it’s for real 1.1. Excited because you know you’d kick so much @ss in this role 1.2. Skeptical because you’re not sure it could be real… but if it is, you’d OWN it 2. You’re pretty sure the ATS is screening you out because you don’t fit the mold 3. You know you have imposter syndrome and you’ve worked hard to overcome it in other roles… 3.1….and you’re ready to be seen for the value you bring and not the value you get told you have to perfect 4. You believe that companies should exist to make the world a better place but it’s dependent on the employees being empowered to make impact. Leantime (Techstars '23) exists to support the unique and powerful ways our 🧠 work and to enable people to scale innovation, creativity and impact — while not being slowed down by models that fail to include neurodivergent perspectives. You should work here if you believe each perspective brings something new to the table and that what we build is so much better because of it. What makes a company plateau? Asked ourselves this question today @ Spectre Talent. I have seen software vendors come and go over the last 8 years. Some of them have also stayed at around the same point... but why does it stop? Do the founders lose their spark? Thrown everything at a business for over a decade, made a tonne of money and just not bothered anymore... Have the goals changed? They've lost their identity and what they are trying to achieve as a collective & therefore just stuck at the same level. Maybe they're content? Just happy with what they are doing, the team is happy, they enjoy working there & are cool with being that. For me, you have to look at the likes of Meta, Google, Apple where it is just as hard to get a job there today, as it was when they founded the business so long ago. Software start-ups forget their standards. They only want A players at the start & when it becomes hard to hire, go and hire a group of B/C players. This becomes their standard. Tony Robbins famously said: "You don't get your goals, you get your standards" Companies that keep their standards always come to the top. They stay acutely focused the common business goal & everyone is so locked in that they get there. They surround themselves with winners, looking around saying how can we all get better. They do that so well that even just by accident they end up winning. Our advice to start-up founders is KEEP YOUR STANDARDS! Do that, you might just win by accident.

Longer answer: > We handled the growth organically. Growing at a 36% CAGR is not a lot, but it can surely stretch people when they need to wear different hats. We decided to stay sane instead of growing at all costs. > We hired for mindset, not for skills. We couldn't figure out what to write on the career page. As a people-centric business, we decided not to write at all. > We're a worker-owned cooperative. We didn't know how to onboard co-owners properly. Here's a question for all business owners? How often do you onboard new partners with co-founder financial and governance rights? It's almost impossible after a certain point, right? Well, each year we onboarded and offboarded a couple of people. > We didn't have a slot as we fulfilled almost everything organically. We couldn't find a person for a position? We skipped entirely instead of chasing profits. > We were entirely a lifestyle business. Growth was a by-product of ambitions and having fun while juggling what came our way. Without investors or external pressures, we could define our work culture holistically. But now things changed. We have a lot of more gravity and our opportunity landscape is growing. Now we're "too big to fail" because around 50 people and their families rely on Camplight.
