Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that can have the biggest impact. Take racing bibs, for example. 🏃♀️ For years, women athletes have been competing with oversized pinned bibs that weren’t designed for their bodies, making it uncomfortable to move freely. But recently, ATHLOS — the women’s-only invitational meet set up by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian did something different. 💡 They introduced racing bibs specifically tailored for women's bodies, and used adhesive instead of safety pins. A small tweak, but one that can make a difference in how an athlete performs.🏅 Ever thought a racing bib could impact performance in sports? Turns out, it can. 💭 #Innovation #WomenInSports #Performance 📸 : The Female Athlete Project

Tidbit for your Day | Despite the progress women are making in sports, Formula 1 remains a space where women are notably absent behind the wheel. In this piece by Marketplace, the article dives into the many factors at play—cultural, structural, and economic—that have hindered female drivers from breaking into the sport. As we look at the future of sports, particularly with the rise in female viewership and participation, it’s critical that we question these barriers and drive forward (see what we did there? 😀 ) initiatives that champion inclusivity and equal opportunity. What do you think needs to change to see more women on the Formula 1 grid?

Great article about women jockeys. It wasn’t all that long ago when women even showing up at the racetrack wasn’t welcome or wanted. Only 0.9% women jockeys in the Kentucky Derby number is quite sobering. We had a horse in the Kentucky Derby in the 2017 starting lineup as a breeder and he finished 3rd. Even that is an accomplishment for a woman in racing, but there is still a way to go for the athletes. One of the important quotes in the article are that to get hired, a woman jockey must be good. But to get good, she needs opportunities to get better. Not dissimilar from other places where there are not enough women yet. Just installing women in higher positions isn’t enough, that can set them up to fail when they are not ready, and then cause a backlash that women are not good enough to lead. It is clear that opportunities and mentorship are crucial to close the skill and readiness gap.
Six women jockeys have ridden in the Kentucky Derby. She wants to be the seventh.

This quote in a Forbes article from Alexis Ohanian regarding Athlos got my attention: "The capitalist in me, not the feminist in me, is why I'm excited about this [Athlos: the track meet]." After Athlos, track fans are wondering what's next? Is a game-changing track meet the end goal or is it a part of a greater plan in Ohanian's big bet on women's sports? In my humble opinion: how about a female-focused sports and talent agency? 'The power to bring a high-end fashion magazine to a track meet is one that can make connections across industries in order to increase value. Bridging industries is what it takes to go mainstream, and turn a track star into an icon.' https://lnkd.in/geruQn2N

We ask - how can we better support and retain our female workforce, and strive to lead the sport industry in enabling women to succeed? During the discussion our expert panellists will cover: progress and areas to celebrate, what are the gaps, how can the sport retain more of its female workforce and what are the issues? Women are driving golf's growth since the pandemic! According to the National Golf Foundation, over 800,000 American women took up the sport of golf from 2020 to 2022, bringing the total to 6.4 million female golfers. This surge in interest has not gone unnoticed by the multibillion-dollar golf industry, including equipment companies, clothing brands, and elite courses, which are responding accordingly. The number of female golfers has risen by about 15 percent, while the male golf pool has increased by just 2 percent in the same time frame. So, whether it is for business or pleasure, more women than ever are keen to learn golf. Read on for more: https://wapo.st/48PEBjQ #Golf #GolfCourses #WomenInGolf
