Is it just me, or has the job market seemed to shift? While there are layoffs still occurring - they are waning. I'm seeing more and more hiring, and new job announcements. Thank goodness - it's been a ROUGH +2 years for a whole lot of people, including me. For those who continue to look for their next opportunity - keep your head up, and stay focused. One of my favorite (free!) job search resources is Levels.fyi. It's great for figuring out how the levels of seniority are organized at 100's of large companies. It's also a very capable aggregator of compensation data. It's mind numbing keeping track of all the different leveling terms out there. You could be an L4, E4, P4, SDE IV, ICT4, etc. depending on what company you're applying to. There's no consistency on what the number such as "4" is at each company. Is that high? Is it low? What the heck does ICT stand for?! There are other sites that do this, but Levels.fyi has the best UI and no annoying log in requirements. #Hiring #Recruiting #Talent #Data #Startups

Most software engineers lose the company money 💸 Huh? Take a look at this graph. Software engineers have ability on an exponential curve. A software engineer is paid an ungodly amount of money for the very small chance that they can write code that automatically makes the company money with no labor. In this graph, a software engineer's compensation might be the equivalent of what a ~10x engineer is. But that's fine, because the average engineer is 49x! No other job is like this, where you can automate your own job and make yourself that much more efficient. Companies know this. The only reason why layoffs recently have only been at the level of a couple % of the SWE workforce, is that those 1000x engineers don't want to work at a place where they need to worry about getting laid off. The 3/4 of the engineers are just around to make sure the 1000x engineer can have friends, is having a good time, and won't leave the company. #software #swe #softwareengineering #hiring
