As my last year of law school comes to an end, I am happy to announce that I have accepted an offer to join Saul Ewing LLP in the fall. Thank you to all the attorneys at the firm that I have met so far and to my mentors who have supported me throughout the past three years. I am beyond excited to start my career at the firm!
Fearless Advocate, Commercial Litigator, Founding Partner at Book Erskine LLP
I always (thought) I appreciated law firm staff, but I didn't really understand how crucial they are to everything we do until I started my own firm six years ago. Running a law firm is hard work, but teamwork makes the dream work.
With that in mind, I'm super-excited that Liliana Hargreaves has joined the Book Erskine LLP team as our new Office Manager, while Kayleigh Ruggles will be moving into the role of Manager, Client Services and Business Development. Welcome, Lil, and congrats to Kayleigh on the new role!
I am attending the Young Arbitrator's Career Day!
I am even more excited for my future career in Dispute Resolution. I am very determined to become a fully fledged dispute resolver including, inter alia, as Lawyer, Negotiator, Mediator, Arbitrator, Adjudicator, Conflict Resolver, Peace Maker and possibly Judicial Officer or Judge later in life, of course subject to changes in trajectory.
Of course I am an academic first and foremost.
This was a very fun presentation - all the 3Ls had such good energy (especially for a Friday before Spring Break!!). Thanks for hosting us, Alice and Lewis & Clark Law School!
One great question we got: "If I'm working and won't be available to start a new job before December, when should I start looking?"
Don't waste time applying to open job postings you won't be able to start for months - very few, if any, employers will wait when they have a current need. If you're actively available (for example, you've passed your licensure, finished your externship, made the move, etc.) then you can be actively applying for posted jobs.
However, don't discount the power of using the time when you are not quite ready to start to set yourself up for success! Network, schedule informational interviews, go to events, do research, get your materials and LinkedIn in order, follow recruiters, etc. so that when you're ready, your search will feel like it has good momentum (and a much more human connection) already.
Finished up my two-week tour of speaking with students with a visit to Lewis & Clark Law School, joined by my colleagues (and attorney experts) Kelsey and Abby, to discuss navigating the job search as a new attorney. Thank you to Alice Emerson for inviting us and thanks to all of the students for sticking with us for 3 hours (!) of presentations and asking plenty of great questions. Good luck to everybody, you got this!!
It is with profound sadness that we at Hill Wallack learned of the passing of Kenneth Meiser. Ken was a true pioneer in the application of the law to affordable housing issues, and he devoted much of his legal career to helping meet the housing needs of the poor, capping off his career at Hill Wallack. Ken was a valued colleague, friend, and mentor and will be missed by all who knew him at the firm.

Congratulations!!!!!!
I have watched you grow, flourish into a confident, brilliant young woman. Your unwavering commitment to knowledge, justice, and fairness has always been evident, and it fills my heart with admiration and pride.
Law school will undoubtedly test your limits, both intellectually and emotionally. There will be long nights of studying, rigorous debates, and demanding deadlines. But I know that your resilience, intellect, and passion will carry you through. Remember that challenges are the stepping stones to growth, and every obstacle you encounter will shape you into a stronger, more compassionate advocate for justice.
As you delve into the vast realm of law, I urge you to remain true to yourself and your values. Let your unwavering integrity be your compass, guiding you through the complexities of the legal landscape.

Share Your Failures! Resilience is not about your successes. It’s about your failures and your pain. And sharing them with others will lift them up, more than you can imagine. My message to FSU Law Grads.
🎓U.S. Attorney Lapointe delivered a powerful commencement address at The Florida State University College of Law’s Spring 2024 ceremony and inspired the next generation of lawyers to honor their history, work hard, stay the course, embrace the unknown, help others, and be resilient.
Remember, one of the most important ingredients for personal or professional success is resilience. Congratulations Class of 2024!
