🌟 Key Takeaways from Our Career Transitions Q&A Session Thank you to everyone who participated in our Q&A session! Most of our conversation evolved around Networking Strategies: - Embrace Curiosity and seek to connect to understand more about your dream company or department vs. connecting with a short minded view as you apply for a given job - Be Intentional on who you network with: attending Get Together and Events are nice albeit leave a lot to chance. Why not list the top companies you would love to work in and build your network around - Bring Value: there are plenty of ways you can bring value to your contacts. Be it information, contacts, answers, experiences, resources, questions or even simply respect and empathy If you have any more questions, feel free to comment below. Don’t forget to [download our free career transition guide](https://lnkd.in/drAsTecs) for more insights. 🔄 **Repost:** Share these takeaways with your network!

Last week in The Career Success Factors: Network Your Way to Career Elevating Opportunities webinar, I spoke about how your professional brand and your professional network are connected. Here are indicators of progress that shows that both are in sync with one another. ➡️ You are “tapped” for a new opportunity, whether for a role change or project participation. ➡️ You are requested to represent the company at industry events, at conferences, for interviews or your likeness is used for marketing materials. ➡️ You are consulted with, not only in the areas of your expertise, but also to provide your point-of-view outside of your area of expertise. ➡️ You are referred to job opportunities by a former colleague or manager. ➡️ You land a new role that you didn’t think you were the best qualified person in the running for it. What indicators of progress have you experienced that demonstrates that your professional brand and network are in sync?

At this time last week, I was taking my leave from the DHS career expo in Centreville, Virginia. The event had been absolutely packed, and, as a recent college graduate, it was easy to feel like I was out of place and in over my head. In my time there, though, I am happy to report that I gained several new insights on these sorts of events and on networking in general. 1. Opportunities often come from unlikely places: Some of the best conversations I had at this event came not when talking with recruiters, but when waiting in lines, sitting and eating, attending an event, etc. Keep your mind open and talk to anyone and everyone you can! It's not only good for your network, but it makes these sorts of events vastly more enjoyable! 2. Don't be afraid to assert yourself: You're much more memorable if you try and talk with someone and connect with them than if you shake your hand, listen to what they have to say, and then drop off your resume. It's an especially good idea to get people talking about themselves, they'll almost always love that! (Especially if you're a good, active listener). 3. It's okay to fail: Sometimes, you're going to wait in a long line only to find out that all of the positions you were interested in have already been taken. Sometimes, you're going to be brushed off or ignored by an organization that you were targeting. All of this is part of the process; you can choose to see them as growth points, as learning opportunities, or you can just stubbornly cross your arms and complain that the world is unfair. The world often IS unfair. But that doesn't mean you should stop trying or stop learning. Thanks for reading. I hope you all had a wonderful fourth of july! 🎆 🦅
