What is the PCS team doing in Louisiana? Use cases of course vary by customer, but stand alone grids, with critical resiliency that seek to reduce fossil generation, daily, are another utilization where ESS adds unique value. Safely reducing diesel generation is a key objective, not only for our armed forces, but for utilities with peaker plants, data center customers, as well as industrial and manufacturing customers. In February, the US Army Corps of Engineers proposed a series of procedures to implement the governmentwide Principles, Requirements, and Guidelines for water-resource projects. The “heart” of these agency-specific procedures (ASPs) ensures that decisionmakers consider a wide suite of economic, environmental, and social benefits and costs as they invest in such projects. The proposal reasonably moves the Corps away from its historical and inefficiently narrow focus on national economic development to the exclusion of other essential objectives like environmental quality and distributional considerations. While the proposal takes valuable steps toward more comprehensive accounting of societal benefits and improved decisionmaking, we suggested several additional steps the Corps can take to make the ASPs even more effective. Transitioning from the military to a career in construction has been a fulfilling journey for me.
