Child trafficking is a serious human rights violation with severe and long-lasting effects on the child's physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. Some of the effects of child trafficking include: 1. Physical harm: Children may be subjected to physical abuse, sexual exploitation, and forced labor, leading to injuries, illnesses, and even death. 2. Emotional trauma: Trafficked children often experience anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicidal thoughts due to the trauma they endure. 3. Psychological distress: Children may develop low self-esteem, self-blame, and shame, leading to difficulties in forming healthy relationships and trusting others. 4. Educational and social deprivation: Trafficked children are often denied access to education, socialization, and age-appropriate activities, hindering their cognitive and social development. 5. Health problems: Children may contract sexually transmitted infections (STIs), experience reproductive health issues, and suffer from malnutrition and poor living conditions. 6. Substance abuse: Some trafficked children may be forced into substance abuse or develop addiction as a coping mechanism. 7. Legal and immigration issues: Trafficked children may face legal consequences, detention, and deportation, further exacerbating their vulnerability. 8. Family separation: Children may be separated from their families, leading to feelings of abandonment and loss. 9. Stigma and social isolation: Survivors of child trafficking may face stigma, social exclusion, and difficulty reintegrating into their communities. 10. Long-term consequences: The effects of child trafficking can persist into adulthood, impacting mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. It's essential to provide support, protection, and services to trafficked children to help them recover and rebuild their lives.

Yesterday was World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. 1 in 3 victims of human trafficking globally is a child. To date, we have not effectively addressed the issue of child trafficking. Urgent and comprehensive action is essential to tackle this dire situation, protect vulnerable groups from exploitation and support child victims of trafficking. It is crucial to address the shortcomings and accelerate action to #EndHumanTrafficking.

It's time to prioritize child protection and justice.   Every year, millions of children fall prey to human trafficking, accounting for 1 in 3 victims. Global crises have heightened their vulnerability, with identified child trafficking victims tripling over the past 15 years and boys increasing fivefold. These victims face double the violence compared to adults.   This World Day Against Trafficking, join us in the fight to protect our children and dismantle trafficking networks. Trafficked children face exploitation, including forced labour, criminality, and sexual abuse.
