A goal without a plan is just a wish. Tactics or action steps in the absence of a clearly thought through marketing strategy is substituting motion for action. It won’t take your company where you want to go. Why? Because there’s no roadmap. The context is missing. It’s like watching a movie beginning in the middle. Just being busy creates a false illusion of productivity in the short term. But being busy just for the sake of being busy is really counterproductive. It won’t accomplish long term goals. And it will result in less profitable transactional business that requires constantly replenishing the customer pipeline with additional less profitable transactional sales. Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is nothing. But until you have first put your plan in place, it may be the most cost-effective thing to do in the long run.
