Jo Tenzer, CNNIC's Director of Audience Insights, has written a thought leadership column on the latest travel trends entitled 'Travel is not back, it's forward: jet-setting consumer trends for 2024'. The article has been published by WARC this week.
"[...] it’s fair to say that travel isn’t back, it’s ‘forward’. What do I mean by that? Simply, that how people travel, why they choose a particular destination, and what they expect from that experience has changed dramatically in recent years."

This is either a testament to the evolution of the modern co-parent or a commentary on the amazing value of “the village”! The latest 2024 Global Travel Trends Report by American Express shares that 69% of all respondents—and a whopping 76% of millennials and Gen-Z travelers—are planning solo travel this year. And a further 60% are planning two solo getaways. This sounds amazing… and like the right thing to do. I need to find a way to get past the guilt of the solo trip. Clearly, I’m an X-er… #destinationmarketinghttps://lnkd.in/eTrM4QsP

This point about community is so important and what I hear most from BOOKED Trips travelers in our trip interest forms - our travelers are looking to meet likeminded women.
I created a travel company focused on creating book-inspired experiences because books are a place for us to see and feel seen. To have our experiences mirrored and considered deeply. In a world that can feel simultaneously wonderous, lonely, scary, out of control, joyful, funny, infuriating, heartbreaking and heartwarming - books are places where we're not alone. The books we choose for our trips are "full of complicated feelings and the resolve to live in them" (h/t Christina Sharpe, author of Ordinary Notes).
We gather together in book clubs, participate in book challenges and author talks, visit libraries and bookstores, and travel around the world to find our people. Because we want to witness and be witnessed.
THAT is what BOOKED Trips are about. Traveling in ways that allow us to see ourselves and the world in our vastness, complexity, and nuance. Creating experiences that honor and reflect the power of literature and storytelling. Using travel and literature as a way to hold each other's stories.

Last week at the launch event for Skift Megatrends in Travel 2024, I closed it with a semi-impromptu talk connecting the seminal changes in demographics of the world, the human living adaptation that is needed due to climate change, the state of connection -- and loneliness rising -- in the world and what it means for the future of travel.
This isn’t just a long range decades-into-the-future issue, this is happening now in many parts of the world, it explains so many of fault lines in our world today. AND it has a direct impact in what's happening in travel today and what's to come.
The biggest thing: it enhances travel's place in the world, BUT its ascent isn't guaranteed. The demographic challenges can go either way, depending on how the world — including the travel industry — responds to it.
