I am thrilled to share that I have successfully completed the NPTEL course on the Basics of Semiconductor Microwave Devices! 🎓 Embarking on this learning journey was both exhilarating and enriching, offering me a deeper understanding of the fundamental principles and applications of semiconductor devices in microwave engineering. As someone passionate about technology and eager to expand my knowledge in this field, this course was a perfect fit for me. Throughout the course, I had the opportunity to delve into a wide range of topics, from semiconductor physics and device fabrication to microwave transmission lines and network analysis. Each module was meticulously crafted, combining theoretical concepts with practical applications, to provide a comprehensive overview of semiconductor microwave devices.

I am thrilled to share that our paper titled, “A Low-Loss Passive D-Band Phase Shifter for Calibration-Free, Precise Phase control” has been published in IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC). In this paper, we present a low-loss passive phase shifter with calibration-free, precise phase control by exploiting a digitally programmable trombone-like passive network. The prototype 140-GHz phase shifter fabricated in a 45 nm RFSOI technology achieves the lowest RMS phase error (1.2°) without calibration and the first bi-directional 360° tuning with no dc power consumption among state-of-the-art D-band phase shifters. The prototype IC also exhibits low insertion loss and compact chip area. The proposed phase shifter is expected to motivate further development of large-scale D-band beamformers for next-generation communications and sensing. We have published a new video on our channel: Power supply sequencing and its considerations by Olga Kharko ----- Abstract: "In the complex multiple power domain systems the suitable power supply sequencing is required in order to prevent the excessive current flow, latch up, as well as the long term reliability. This talk gives the overview about common design techniques for start up/down sequencing for analog and mixed-signal systems. Also it describes the power-on-reset circuit solutions, power ok, soft-start, current limitation, level- shifter enabling and isolation, and shows the common pitfalls which designer might encounter." hey connections... Recently I'm interested in concept of RLC circuits... The first evidence that a capacitor could produce electrical oscillations was discovered in 1826 by French scientist Felix Savary.[23][24] He found that when a Leyden jar was discharged through a wire wound around an iron needle, sometimes the needle was left magnetized in one direction and sometimes in the opposite direction. He correctly deduced that this was caused by a damped oscillating discharge current in the wire, which reversed the magnetization of the needle back and forth until it was too small to have an effect, leaving the needle magnetized in a random direction. American physicist Joseph Henry repeated Savary's experiment in 1842 and came to the same conclusion, apparently independently.[25][26] British scientist William Thomson (Lord Kelvin) in 1853 showed mathematically that the discharge of a Leyden jar through an inductance should be oscillatory, and derived its resonant frequency.[23][25][26] British radio researcher Oliver Lodge, by discharging a large battery of Leyden jars through a long wire, created a tuned circuit with its resonant frequency in the audio range, which produced a musical tone from the spark when it was discharged.[25] In 1857, German physicist Berend Wilhelm Feddersen photographed the spark produced by a resonant Leyden jar circuit in a rotating mirror, providing visible evidence of the oscillations.[23][25][26] In 1868, Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell calculated the effect of applying an alternating current to a circuit with inductance and capacitance, showing that the response is maximum at the resonant frequency.[23] The first example of an electrical resonance curve was published in 1887 by German physicist Heinrich Hertz in his pioneering paper on the discovery of radio waves, showing the length of spark obtainable from his spark-gap LC resonator detectors as a function of frequency.[23] One of the first demonstrations of resonance between tuned circuits was Lodge's "syntonic jars" experiment around 1889[23][25] He placed two resonant circuits next to each other, each consisting of a Leyden jar connected to an adjustable one-turn coil with a spark gap. When a high voltage from an induction coil was applied to one tuned circuit, creating sparks and thus oscillating currents, sparks were excited in the other tuned circuit only when the inductors were adjusted to resonance. Lodge and some English scientists preferred the term "syntony" for this effect, but the term "resonance" eventually stuck.[23] The first practical use for RLC circuits was in the 1890s in spark-gap radio transmitters to allow the receiver to be tuned to the transmitter. The first patent for a radio system that allowed tuning was filed by Lodge in 1897, although the first practical systems were invented in 1900 by Anglo Italian radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi.[23]

New research paper from our Infineon Technologies' crew: Power electronics is experiencing a strong growth, driven by industrial demand for applications as diverse as wall adapters and renewable energy. In addition to topologies, semiconductors or control, there is also a need for research in magnetics, such as planar transformers, which are very useful for certain applications where a low converter profile is desired, so that replacing traditional wire transformers has a quantitative advantage in terms of power density and geometry, as well as EMI reduction. In this paper, an experimental comparison of different planar transformer architectures is made, a comparison of the test results is presented.

We are excited to announce that our research paper, also my first IEEE Trans. paper as the first author, titled “A New Cross-Overlapped Decoupling Coil Structure for EV Dynamic Inductive Wireless Charging Systems” has been published in the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my co-authors, supervisors, workmates, and everyone who assisted me throughout this research. I could not have reached this milestone without their support, and I truly appreciate their contributions. This work was primarily supervised by Prof. Dr. Saad Mekhilef and mainly supported by the co-author, named Peyman Darvish. Our research aims to address the power and voltage fluctuation challenges that occur during the movement of electric vehicles in dynamic wireless charging systems. A new coil structure combing crossed coil structure and overlapped structure has been proposed and analyzed in this paper. Within the realm of electronic music, the amplifier plays a pivotal role akin to that of a conductor, transforming delicate electric signals into a powerful auditory experience. Kicking off Day 1 of #100daysofampdesign in my microelectronics course at Obafemi Awolowo University, I'm thrilled to document my journey in developing an amplifier project designed to elevate performance standards! Here's the update on my progress: I've been delving into the device physics underlying the two critical transistors used in amplification circuits: the BJT and the MOSFET. I've grasped the principles behind the MOSFET and am now focusing on the BJT, which is fundamental to analog circuitry. In our recent session, we explored the principles of amplifier architecture. I've come to understand the importance of signal conditioning, a crucial function of amplifiers, which involves modifying an electrical signal to make it suitable for further processing, transmission, or analysis. Additionally, we covered the four standard amplifier configurations. I expanded my knowledge on this topic by consulting chapter 8 of the Howei and Soldini textbook on microelectronics, where I learned about calculating gains for different types of amplifiers: voltage, circuit, transconductance, and transresistance, directly from their respective circuits. #100daysofampdesign #microelectronics  Pipeloluwa Olayiwola
