I've never met Brian, and this isn't meant to take away from his post but add to it. Remember that this isn't a full list. - Get in any way you can - Yes. Make connections, get experience, get exposure. But don't treat those opportunities like a "foot in the door". - Get transferable skills - Absolutely. Build your skills set and know where you want to go. - Add Value in your current role - Absolutely. Always. There's one important step that I want to make sure isn't ignored. You have to know where you're heading before you can know how to get there. When people ask me about getting a job in the NBA, there is a LOT of variance to that question. A job in Scouting looks a lot different than a job in Sponsorship. Don't treat them like they're the same. Paths can and often will change mid route, and that's OK, but don't "One size fits all" the league or industry.
“How do I get a job at the NBA?” I’m also asked this question at least three times a week. Here are three tips I always share with aspiring professionals looking to break into the league: ▪️Get in any way you can: full-time, part-time, internship, or even volunteering! ▪️Gather transferable skills at all levels of basketball: HS, AAU, college, or even with a brand connected to basketball culture. ▪️While building strong networking in the NBA is key, having skills and experiences that bring value to your job is also crucial. The NBA is one of the most globally recognized sports leagues, and working there is more competitive than ever. I’m making a curated selection of career tools, guides, templates, and everything you need to advance your career to help you land a job in the NBA. 📲 Comment your email below, and we’ll add you to Sports Business Ventures' early access list to receive these resources.

The Cincinnati CIO Roundtable in partnership with INTERalliance hosted our annual intern summit at NKU earlier this week, and once I again I got to spend lunch talking with groups of really impressive interns from organizations throughout the greater Cincinnati area. As always, I was blown away by the energy, engagement, and thoughtful questions that the attendees asked. Here are three takeaways: 1. A lot of young folks need to see us being human. Every year, I talk about being an introvert, challenging myself to get out of my shell, and about techniques I used to intentionally handle social situations better. Every year interns light up when they hear that and ask question after question based on their own experiences. If you get the chance, talk about how you've grown, how it felt, and where you struggled. 2. A lot of our careers look like a fixed path from outside. Attendees were often relieved to hear about lateral paths and how broad experiences tended to help the senior IT folks in the room progress in our careers. 3. We need to create more opportunities for teenagers and early career folks to gain access to people at every level of our organizations for conversations like these! And most importantly - if there's not something like this in your area yet, it's worth doing: https://lnkd.in/eN_abKNE Big thanks to Geoff Smith and Gregory Simpson for their role in making this happen!

When I was recently contacted by the PRCA to recommit to our pledge on paying interns, it made me wonder: what sort of company does not pay interns? We have had a fully salaried intern recruitment position annually for more than a decade and have used this globally to bring in lots of interns to the business and to train them either to stay with us (great) or to move on in their careers. We've had the pleasure of paying interns to learn their trade with us, and have provided a great springboard for other businesses to benefit from the training we give our staff if they move on later. This is a win/win for us, for interns, for future employers. Why would anyone not pay a fair salary to somebody who is working for their organization? Personally I do not feel it is fair to ask anyone to work for our business without payment for their services. I guess when all companies pay, it will be more of a level paying field, but if companies continue not to pay, there is a continued expectation that this is about 'taking advantage'. We've employed a great cohort of interns over the years, and I would be embarrassed to have taken advantage of their wish to 'get on the ladder'. So The Scott Partnership Ltd has only ever paid its interns and will continue to do so into the future. #internships #intern #B2Bmarketing #B2BPR PRWeek
We’re proud to support PRCA and PRWeek UK’s campaign to end unpaid internships. We have always made it a company policy to pay anyone who works for us, and our #intern programme – in place for more than a decade – was an inevitable place to implement this. As a business we proudly bring interns in as part of our employment and growth strategy, and anyone who works for the business is paid accordingly. Clients pay us, we pay staff. That is the way in our world. This has been a long-standing business belief, and we are proud to support PRCA and PRWeek in this area. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dq-KMR2J
