Today, on Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honor the history, resilience, and cultural contributions of Indigenous communities across Canada. This day is a time for reflection, learning, and acknowledgment while also committing to the ongoing journey toward healing and reconciliation.   At GSI, we are privileged to work alongside Indigenous partners like Ocean Man First Nation on the Iyuhána Solar project. This collaboration represents more than just a renewable energy initiative; it is a partnership built on mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to fostering sustainable development that benefits both the environment and Indigenous communities.   As we move forward, we remain dedicated to listening, learning, and supporting initiatives that uplift Indigenous voices and create meaningful opportunities for economic growth and environmental stewardship.

This week, members from the GSI team were provided the opportunity to attend the 2024 Concordia Annual Summit in New York City. The theme of this year’s conference was “Navigating a New Era,” where attendees engaged and explored the tools and partnerships needed to address pressing global challenges, including several sessions built around sustainability and energy.   The GSI team were able to engage with heads of state from around the globe, industry leaders representing a wide array of key sectors, along with scholars and students from renowned institutions all around the world. The Summit provided a unique platform for public and private sector stakeholders to engage in solutions-oriented conversations, fostering mutual learning and collaboration.   As the North American renewable energy subsidiary of Libra Group, GSI was grateful for the opportunity to attend this transformative summit. Opportunities like this help to further bolster the resolve of our team as we pursue our vision of creating a more sustainable world through the advancement of clean energy.

Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure (GSI) is excited to announce the closing of a $24 million construction and USDA-backed permanent financing facility with Live Oak Bank to finance two community solar projects in New York State totaling 10 MWac. Located in Yates County, NY, the projects are part of a 222 MWac community solar portfolio with 46 projects across multiple markets and in various stages of development. This significant financial partnership will support the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), as well as long term financing of our Martin and Horning community solar projects in New York state, which will generate over 20,000 MWh of clean, renewable energy each year. Live Oak Bank is known for its strong commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives across the U.S. As a leading financial institution, Live Oak has been pivotal in supporting USDA REAP projects, helping rural communities embrace sustainable energy solutions while benefiting from federal incentives designed to reduce carbon emissions and promote economic growth. As GSI continues to expand its solar portfolio, the Martin and Horning projects highlight our ongoing commitment to New York State’s renewable energy goals, including 70% renewable electricity by 2030 and a zero-emission grid by 2040. The projects will generate electricity through the New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) Community Distributed Generation program, which allows a renewable energy project to provide community members, via subscription, a discount on their monthly electricity bill. GSI is excited for the opportunity to partner with Live Oak Bank, and we look forward to energizing the remaining 11 projects totaling 50 MW in New York State as part of our ongoing commitment to building impactful clean energy solutions. On Saturday September 7th, as part of GSI’s recent trip to the Canadian Prairies, our team was honored to be a guest of Ocean Man First Nation at their 2024 Pow wow. This special event marked the 150th anniversary of the nation’s sovereignty and self-determination for their inherent rights and preserved cultural identity through Treaty 4. This was a truly inspiring event for GSI to participate in, providing our team with a glimpse into the cultural identity, rich traditions and proud heritage of Ocean Man First Nation. Chief Connie Big Eagle and her community were gracious hosts throughout the event and our team was moved to be included in the Grand Entry Ceremony on Saturday. GSI is proud to partner with Ocean Man First Nation on our Iyuhána Solar project, and we look forward to continuing this meaningful collaboration to build a sustainable future for generations to come. This past week, members of the GSI team were part of an unforgettable trip to the Canadian Prairies, future home of our Iyuhána Solar project. This project, a GSI led partnership with Ocean Man First Nation, will see the development, construction and operation of a 100 MWac facility under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with SaskPower.   Iyuhána Solar, which will power the equivalent of 25,000 homes, will be Saskatchewan’s largest solar project and amongst the top 10 largest contracted solar projects in Canada.   On Thursday September 5th, our team held the first Community Open House for the Iyuhána Solar project. The event, hosted at Southeast College Saskatchewan’s Estevan Campus, provided an excellent platform for our team to engage with the local community while sharing critical updates on the development of this facility.   Additionally, while in Saskatchewan, members of the GSI team toured the future Iyuhána Solar project site with local representatives from the RM of Estevan, marking an important step forward as we continue to collaborate with the local community regarding Iyuhána Solar.   GSI is grateful for the positive relations and engagement with both the RM of Estevan and the City of Estevan as we progress through the development phase of this foundational renewable energy project.
