🌍⚡️ This summer, I had the opportunity to embark on a road trip inside Portugal in a Polestar 2 LR, which can travel approximately 500 km on a single charge. This picture was taken at Barragem da Aguieira, located between Coimbra and Viseu, during one of my short stops. In fact, as we face the energy transition, it’s exciting to see how different elements of the clean energy ecosystem work together. Hydropower is a significant source of renewable energy, providing a stable and reliable supply of electricity. This clean energy can power electric vehicles, creating a sustainable cycle that reduces our carbon footprint and helps combat climate change. Also, the reliability of hydropower contributes to grid stability, which is essential as we integrate more EVs into our energy systems. A stable grid ensures that charging infrastructure can keep up with the growing demand from electric vehicles. 🔥 Ready for a revolution in energy efficiency? 🌟 Have you ever wondered what the future of electricity generation looks like? 💡 Well, this week, together with @Sasa Medved and Duro Drzaic had the incredible opportunity to take our HEP Proizvodnja customer representatives Vedran Gaće and Josip Misura on an eye-opening journey to Vienna, witnessing firsthand the innovative energy efficiency initiatives at Wien Energie GmbH 🚀 🔥 Wien Energie is leading the charge in introducing hydrogen into electricity generation and district heating, setting a remarkable example for sustainable energy solutions. 💨🔌 The pilot project at Donaustadt cogeneration plant is a groundbreaking endeavor, exploring the potential of green hydrogen to revolutionize power generation and decaronize City of Vienna. 🌱💧 💡 With operational testing successfully performed Hydrogen Field test on the Siemens Energy gas turbine in the amount of 15% hydrogen mix blended with natural gas and plans to increase hydrogen blending to 25%, the Donaustadt plant is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future. By blending green hydrogen with a 15% share, the plant can reduce its annual carbon dioxide emissions by 33,000 tons 🌍🌿 The collaboration between Wien Energie GmbH Siemens Energy , RheinEnergie AG and VERBUND AG exemplifies the power of partnership in driving innovation 👍 Fantastic work by all colleagues involved Alexander Kirchner Alexander Wolfgang Ing. Elektra is working hard each day to help reach the goals of our project. Here's one of the desired outcomes we have in mind for Elektra! Production of energy from two sources: firstly, with the hydrogen produced through the process (10.88 KWh/day and nearly 4,000 KWh/year) and then with photovoltaic panels (26 KWh/day and nearly 9,500 KWh/year). ☀ It was great to start the week with a morning run as the morning sun cast its first rays on the ground. An hour spent on fitness gives two more, a head of state has said. :-) Current commercial solar panels convert already 21% of the energy contained in sunlight into electricity. What a wonderful invention the wise scientists made! It has been calculated that the energy coming from the sun to the earth in just over an hour would be enough to cover the entire year's energy consumption by mankind. Here in Finland, the sun shines for about a thousand hours a year, and we cover only ca. 1 % of the electricity demand by solarenergy. So the energy produced directly from the sun is not yet enough, even though the industrial production of solar electricity is growing at a good pace here in the northern regions of the North. Finland has indeed built a very good amount of wind power. With its help, we were able to cover about 18% of Finland's electricity consumption last year. In other words, we need considerably more solar and wind power, but in addition to that, more easily regulated energy production and storage. As you can see from the picture, a lot of hydropower has been used this winter, and the water in Pyhäjärvi is low. In 2022, for example, we produced approximately 16% of our electricity with hydropower. We need more regulating power and electricity storage so that even in the windless and cloudy periods that have occurred in recent weeks, we would be self-sufficient in terms of electricity, and companies that need emission-free energy would invest in Finland. If there is a will, there are also way! Yes, technologies are developing all the time at a great pace. These issues will be discussed a lot this week in Vaasa at the #energyweek event. I and my colleagues Christopher Murray, Henri Vanha and Sami Kosonen hope to meet as many other players in the field as possible in Vaasa, and we will get to think about the work against climate change in practice.
