What do you picture when you hear the word "let go"? How easy or hard is it for you to let go? When I had to change aircon units at my previous apartment, I almost broke down because I had to move so many stuffs. This triggered my journey of "decluttering". At the start, it was very hard to let go of one dress, thinking I may want to wear it if I slim down 😅 They said, practice made perfect. Over the past 3 years, I have let go 80% of all my belongings ("barang2" as we fondly called it here). Mostly, I donated them, giving them a new lease of life, benefiting another 💜 Today, I practice 1-1 exchange policy: if I want to buy something new, I have to let go of an item. The first thing we do as a team when preparing for an estate sale is sort. We sort through the home, one room at a time. The goal is to separate the household items into several categories: Sell Donate Recycle Trash Our main objective is to sort items that can be sold during the public sale. Pillows over here. Lamps over there. Kitchen utensils back here. You get my drift. Without fail, we find ourselves with items that don’t belong in the “sell” pile. Items that may be broken or items that don’t sell well historically at estate sales. We donate with intention where possible, but we also recycle where possible. Most notably electronics and cords. "On garbage collection day, households with curbside collection can place their blue bins, green bins, and up to three-items of garbage for collection at the curb," the city says. A garbage item could include: A garbage bag A container of up to 140 litres A bulky item (furniture or bulky item that can't be re-used or donated) The city says "several smaller bags" can be placed in containers up to 140 litres.
