Women Who Dodge Your Kisses Let me give you an example of what I mean about women dodging kisses: You're on your first date and at some point during the date or at the end of the date you make an attempt to kiss her on the lips. However, she turns her head away and your attempt fails. At this point, don't keep trying, because you will only make her feel uncomfortable and angry with you. So, why is she rejecting your attempt to kiss her? 1. It can be as simple as her rule to not kiss on the first date. Respect her rule if this is the case. 2. How will we evade the prevalence of ‘Avoidant Attachment’ in the future? Recognising a number of individuals I know, both female and male, were harmed from the lack of emotional connection as a child, I often ponder how we are going to avoid more of what results from this in the future? Termed ‘Avoidant Attachment’ to explain how children with care-givers who were “emotionally unavailable” recoil from intimacy as adults, these individuals desperately want to connect emotionally, yet simply cannot, resulting in a viscous cycle with many negative systemic consequences. Added to this, historically, males particularly have been ridiculed for not living up to the stereotypical definition of how a male should be. Following the trends for a number of years of male suicide, toxic masculinity, and failed marriages, etc, has made me ponder the root causes. My message to parents is to “shower” your children with emotional connection. Something I heard yesterday is not to measure the connection by what “you” as the caregiver feel, but rather to reflect on what the child is gaining to ensure “their” emotional needs are met. This includes unconditional affection, given without any expectation from the child, loving them warts & all. “Too often strength and sensitivity are presented as mutually exclusive… We need to teach compassion, respect and empathy at an early, foundational age. If we can teach this to boys at around five, and demonstrate that being gentle, sensitive or emotionally engaged isn’t a weakness, but part of being a fully rounded grown-up man, then we’re getting the message through to them before toxic [masculine] attitudes have a chance to solidify.” Reading the above, quoted from reasons to read ‘The Boy with Flowers in his Hair’ I couldn’t help but think, this is the recipe to grow children into adults with a balanced sense of who they are and the love that is intrinsic within all of us, also taking into consideration our intrinsic wiring and the associated needs. To quote from Gabor Matè “babies are born feeling their way into the world, because they havent yet learned how to think” - this eloquently expresses how imperative love and care are from our early care-givers, nurturing the love & emotion inherent in all of us. Internalised ageism is rampant. As are discussions on grey hair 👩🦱👩🦳👩🦰 This is a great article resource from Changing the Narrative, a leading anti-ageism initiative on internalised ageism and tools to identify and stop it. I would add that internalised ageism also extends to hiring and relationship discrimination towards others of the same age range. I saw that often in my recruitment agency days. On the issue of grey hair and bravery, I have a contrarian point of view and addition to the conversation. 🖊 Firstly, whenever there is media or advertising about people over 50 the default images used are mostly of grey or white haired men and women. This is not representative of the wide range of appearances of the demographic and it must stop. 🖊 Secondly, I believe there is a narrative on being grey brewing which is causing a divide and internal conflict of consciousness. It feels that a person who is grey and chooses to dye their hair another color is a traitor to living their age and anti ageism. I'm grey (started at 30yo over thirty years ago) and dislike the colour on me. It makes me look washed out and doesn't suit me. So I love having my hair dyed blonde. . I'm a fierce ageism warrior but I really grapple with any usage of the phrases 'silver army' and 'grey nomads' etc when referencing people over 50. It's as though the hue is a determinant of the demographic. Such illogical nonsense. My take is that a hair color is always a personal choice and shouldn't be weaponised. And not everyone over 50 goes or is grey. Weird eh! Be and do what floats your own boat - grey, dark, white, blonde, red or pink hair. Don't feel guility for your personal choice. But kick internalised ageism right in the ass professionally & personally If you catch yourself with negative self talk or observe others doing it - STOP🛑 🛑 What are you thoughts?
