We get asked often about "Specializing In Vice" at Fried Design Company and what it really means. The now infamous tagline came to me one night, laying in bed, working away in my brain like I know so many of us do. Problem solving. In the early days of FDC, I had to really drill down on what I knew. I'd read "Win Without Pitching" by Blair Ennis and I'd taken it to heart at the time. How could I drill down into something I know about, using the talents that I have, and the knowledge that I have? And also industries I was interested in enough to keep learning about? I knew food brand and marketing from my time at The Alchemedia Project. I knew booze from my time at Mother's Brewing Company. I didn't know much about the cannabis industry other than the obvious of what you learn as you're growing up - but I was very interested. And so I came up with "Specializing in Vice" - all the industries that are very highly regulated. From the FDA to Dept. of Health and Human Service, to the TTB. We got really good at understanding the red tape - how to stretch it, and sometimes how to get away with breaking it. So that's the story behind "Specializing In Vice." Just a very punk rock way of saying we specialize in industries with lots of oversight. It's not all we do, but we've gotten damn good at it. Still love the tagline.
