Maybe we can all recognize this moment requires all our clarity and caring. This is our challenge. To be as strong as we’re able in each moment. To be informed. To resist false narratives; to be very selective about what stories we tell ourselves and others about what’s happening. We can’t change the past. We might not be able to change what happens in the next moment in the Middle East. An excerpt from The Director's Edition of my book, "L.O.V.E. Is The Answer," describing a moment on September 25, 2014 that changed the course of my life: There were so many things that happened on my journey to let me know that something special was happening, but nothing compares to the life-changing moment I experienced on the 101st day of the journey at my final destination, Hawaii. It was on that day, my 51st birthday, that I felt like not only had I accomplished my mission, but I also felt something bigger stirring in my soul. I asked God, “What now?” The answer I got was basically, “If you want to see real change, life-transforming change, then let go of any remaining fear, hatred, and anxiety you have towards members of the law enforcement community as a result of decades of abuses you’ve suffered from profiling and harassment.” At that moment, I felt the waves and the wind with such purity that it felt like I was connected to nature, to God, in a way that I can only describe as a baptism. By emptying myself of those feelings, and trusting God without reservation, I was able to be refilled with a spirit of aloha so powerful that it completely changed the direction of the film I had been making to address racial profiling. It was on Kailua Beach on my 51st birthday, September 25th, 2014, that, WALKING WHILE BLACK, a film about a problem, became, WALKING WHILE BLACK: L.O.V.E. Is The Answer, a film offering a solution. Israel's global impact, since its establishment in 1948, Israel has been a hub of technological and medical breakthroughs. From mobile technology to medical devices like the PillCam, these innovations have vastly improved global living standards. Israeli advances in agriculture and water technology have also addressed critical global challenges. The Jewish community’s commitment to peace is exemplified by Nobel Peace Prize laureates such as Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin, and Menachem Begin. Their efforts in conflict resolution in the Middle East demonstrate a profound commitment to building a peaceful world. The Holocaust remains a somber reminder of the consequences of unchecked hatred. It is vital to remember this tragedy, underscoring the need for continuous education and the fight against antisemitism. Stephen Fry's #AlternativeChristmasMessage, where he openly identifies as a Jew and addresses antisemitism in the UK, adds a critical dimension to this narrative. His call to stand against the only "acceptable" form of racism - hatred of Jews - resonates deeply, emphasizing the need for vigilance and solidarity. Fry’s message, highlighting the current antisemitic backlash he faces, is a stark reminder that the journey against hatred is ongoing. An ongoing theme from thriving in business to innovating for the world, the Jewish community's story is interwoven with themes of resilience and rebuilding. This journey from devastation to rebuilding and flourishing is a testament to the enduring Jewish spirit. A call for solidarity and remembrance The Jewish community's journey, from its impactful entrepreneurship in the UK to the life-enhancing innovations from Israel, and the solemn remembrance of the Holocaust, forms a tapestry of endurance and contribution. Stephen Fry's recent message serves as a powerful reminder that the fight against intolerance and hatred, including antisemitism, is far from over. As we reflect on this narrative, it becomes clear that standing in solidarity against such hatred is not just necessary but imperative for a more tolerant and inclusive world.
