Gensler DC’s “Roots to Success” initiative at Kelly Miller Middle School (KMMS) is the result of the 2023 Greenbuild Legacy Project Award impacting the heart of Ward 7 in Washington, DC. Building on years of philanthropic work with KMMS, Gensler pursued and ultimately won the $10,000 Greenbuild seed funding to expand the scope of their outreach at Kelly Miller Middle School. The school has a rich cultural history and legacy serving a diverse population of students, most of whom come from families with limited resources. KMMS is situated in a food desert where access to fresh healthy food is scarce. Gensler DC organized a project team and proposed sustainable improvements to the school’s on-site urban farm, courtyard, and indoor cafeteria to provide access to fresh produce and healthy food education. ©Gensler, 📸 Meredith Flanagan |📍 Washington, D.C. #Architecture #Education #GenslerDesign
