International Nurses Day, celebrated on May 12th, is a profound opportunity to recognise and honour the invaluable contributions of nurses in keeping the world healthier. Nurses form the backbone of healthcare delivery, providing compassionate care, emotional support, and technical expertise to patients in hospitals, clinics, and communities worldwide. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses stood at the frontline of the crisis, delivering critical care, facilitating outreach, and managing the logistics of mass vaccination campaigns. Their unwavering dedication was instrumental in alleviating the burden on healthcare systems and providing a beacon of hope amid unprecedented challenges. Their bravery and adaptability have proven their vital role in global healthcare. As the world advances in digital healthcare, nurses are at the core of these innovations. Their efforts align directly with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. By providing inclusive, equitable healthcare, nurses play a pivotal role in reducing global health disparities and improving the quality of care. On this special day, we celebrate their dedication, resilience, and the lasting impact they make on individuals and societies across the globe. #InternationalNursesDay #NursesLead #HealthcareHeroes #SDG3 #SustainableHealthcare #DigitalHealth #FrontlineWarriors

ICN President Pamela Cipriano on Nursing Times article covering #UNHLM #UHC: “UHC can only be achieved through having #nurses working closely with people. Just about everything that makes up good #primary health care is within the remit of nurses, and the countries of the world need to make the effort required to put nurses where they are needed most, and that is alongside #patients in their everyday lives.” https://bit.ly/3LG4o4Y UHC2030 - Taking action for universal health coverage
Cautious optimism after UN pledge on universal healthcare An influential global nursing body, the ICN-International Council of Nurses, has welcomed a “re-commitment” from the United Nations (UN) to aim for global universal health coverage by 2030 – and hopes world leaders recognise the crucial role of nurses in delivering it. #nurse #nurses #nursing #global #international #health #healthcare #icn #universalhealth #globalhealth #worldhealth https://lnkd.in/effd8prf

🏥 Evidence shows that Emergency Departments with low levels of nursing staff result in higher rates of patient mortality. However, calculating the right level of staffing in EDs and wards can be complex and must account for the high level of variation in patients’ needs. Prof Jonathan Drennan and his team at University College Dublin, in conjunction with the Department of Health - Ireland, sought to work out optimum staffing levels. Taking an evidence-based approach, they tested new Frameworks in a number of hospitals. Results showed significant improvements in patient care, reduced patient mortality, reduced staff turnover and increased job satisfaction. 🇮🇪 These frameworks have now become national policy and are additionally saving thousands of Euros every month. The team's work has directly resulted in the Minister for Health committing €25 million in funding for 854 additional nursing posts to fully implement the Framework in all acute hospitals nationally. Their impact case study was the Overall Winner of the 2023 UCD Research Impact Case study Competition. Check out these stats on the nursing workforce in the US! According to the Nursing Workforce Fact Sheet, there are 4.7 million Registered Nurses. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that less than 3.2 million are currently employed, with less than 1.8 million working in hospitals. It's worth noting that other care centers also employ RNs, but it's essential to consider how many of those in hospitals are directly involved in patient care versus performing support or leadership roles. Food for thought when discussing the challenges of staffing nurses in hospitals!

Here a link to a 2024 report from AMN: https://lnkd.in/exFbe6KT If you're in health care and aren't worried about professional staffing--especially nurses--it's worth a read. If you're interested at all in how supply-and-demand models work in real life, it's also worth a read. Hospitals and clinics struggle with both the supply side and demand side of the health care industry every day. Not enough health care professionals, an ever-increasing pool of sick people and others wanting services, and exceptionally portable skills make it a tough environment. Last, if you know a nurse and haven't wished them a "happy nurses week," close this app and text them right now.

Purpose-Driven Nurse & Instructional Designer | Empowering Healthcare Education | Advocate for Nursing Excellence, Nurse Reimbursement, and Healthcare Policy Change
#Nursing has a bright future. However, it's going to take all of us embracing change and focusing our energy on building a sustainable and stable foundation for the profession. As the quote from Socrates says, "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." This means: ⭕ Innovating - Exploring new technologies and care models that can improve patient outcomes, streamline processes, and show the true value of nursing care. ⭕ Educating - Empowering nurses and support staff with the knowledge and skills to adapt to the evolving landscape of healthcare. ⭕ Advocating - Working together to shape policies that support healthy work environments, fair compensation, and professional development. ⭕ Supporting - Fostering a culture of collaboration and mentorship to uplift and inspire the next generation of nurses. Creating a future for nursing that is not only sustainable but also fulfilling and rewarding is a mission all nurses should be able to support! #nursesonlinkedin #innovation #healthcareonlinkedin #sustainability #stability #futureofnursing #change
