In a new report, we explore the challenges facing older people in Scotland, and how an Older People's Commissioner would change the systems that are letting everyone down as they age. We've heard how older people are left feeling powerless and voiceless, and confused about who represents their interests in the Scottish Government. It’s vital that policymakers fully understand the range of issues this group faces. With the support of 35 Scottish charities, we believe a #VoiceForLaterLife – which exists in Wales and Northern Ireland – could improve policies to create a better later life for everyone. 📢 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀! The government has just unveiled the final guidance for Registered Charities making grants to non-qualified donees. Back in June 2022, sector advocacy sparked legislative changes, reshaping how charities can fund non-charities. After consultation on draft guidance, the government has now released the conclusive version. Imagine Canada is currently reviewing the overall impacts, but their initial observation notes the significant reduction in risk mentions. Plus, the document is now better organized and more user-friendly compared to the first draft. Imagine Canada will be providing a detailed analysis in the coming months, but you can read their initial impressions of the first 2023 draft here on their blog: https://bit.ly/3HLPaJv 📰 Dive into the details with the government's press release: https://bit.ly/47D1kyE #CharityGuidance #GovernmentUpdate #NonprofitNews #CharitySectorImpact

Ahead of an upcoming general election, the UK’s five largest children’s charities (Action for Children, Barnardo’s, The Children’s Society, the National Children’s Bureau and NSPCC) have come together, supported by iHV and more than 150 organisations, to make sure the next government has a plan to put Children at the Table. Together, we’re asking the next Government to: • Work together to improve the lives of babies, children and young people • Put children’s needs and voices at the heart of decision making • Spend more of the nation’s wealth on babies, children and young people Act today and join almost 25,000 others in signing the petition calling on the next Government to make good childhoods a national priority: https://buff.ly/3vOmAVq #ChildrenAtTheTable

👋🏽According to a new report published by The Centre for Social Justice, 79% of UK adults agree that small, local, charities seem to be often overlooked and under-resourced. ❌Whilst the work that we do at Purple Shoots is vast and expansive, making a big impact in communities up and down the UK, we cannot continue to make a difference that matches the level of need for our services without financial backing. 📖Over the next few days, we'll be sharing stats from this report which shows the very urgent need to support small, local charities to be seen and resourced and the impact that being ignored has on the people who need our help the most. 💷To read more about the work that we do and to donate to Purple Shoots on a monthly basis, head to: https://lnkd.in/gHC4FPWe 👀You can read the report in full by heading to https://lnkd.in/eXVbSDf5

Bridging the gap In 2023, amid a cost of living crisis, #SmallButVital charities continued to bridge the gap in public services. We supported 706 small charities across England and Wales, awarding £20.5m funding in total, and commissioning 871 new development support projects to help charities overcome challenges and develop their capacity and services. We continued our work in 12 communities, bringing together local people, groups and organisations to design and deliver services that effectively meet the needs of local people. We also used our platform to influence the UK Government, responding to 11 government consultations and parliamentary inquiries, championing the expertise and experience of small charities and the people they serve and advocating for them to get the support they need. In the first full year of implementing our strategy, Building a Better Future, we focused our work around achieving impact in four areas: - strengthening resilience - building connections - amplifying voices - championing equity Discover our progress across all these themes, alongside stories from our charity partners and the people they support, in our 2023 Impact Report, Bridging the Gap from this link https://lnkd.in/eU3rFSjF

Camden is a vibrant, multicultural borough, with 45.4% of Camden residents born outside the UK, contributing to its rich diversity, albeit with significant socio-economic challenges: - At 41%, Camden has the second-highest poverty rate in London. - Camden faces the worst housing affordability in the capital. - London’s Black and Asian communities have been disproportionately affected by the cost-of-living crisis. - Over 2 in 5 Bangladeshis and nearly 1 in 3 Black Londoners live in overcrowded housing conditions in Camden, which is considerably higher than the UK average. - There has been a 39% rise in hate crimes all over London in 2023 compared to 2022. Our incredible community researchers are examining the impact of structural racism on housing, education, employment, and safety across the borough. Findings from our research will inform policy recommendations aimed at key development areas, such as enhancing community infrastructure, improving educational quality with better cultural training and diverse curriculum design, and fostering pathways to employment through collaboration with local businesses. Join us in working to address and dismantle racial inequalities in Camden, and creating more just and inclusive communities for all!
It’s a political bus, but not as you know it. Camden Giving and our friends are heading to Birmingham to meet brap to prepare for a Community Assembly on Strucutal Racim in this September.
