Who thought up this ridiculous EXCLUSIVE process for attending the 3 day VIFF Industry Forum? You have to actually APPLY to attend, be vetted and approved. And there’s no schedule, detailed program or complete list of speakers provided for all the sessions given anywhere unless, it seems, you fill in an application and are accepted! How do I even know if I want to go if I don’t know who’s all attending, what the sessions are about and what the schedule is? In all my 48 years in the industry, attending Canadian markets & festivals I have never heard of anything so exclusionary! Who exactly are the gatekeepers vetting attendees? And how do they define "accredited industry professionals"? It’s not like this is a project oriented co-production forum like Strategic Partners in Halifax or IFF during TIFF. And anyone can go to the general TIFF industry conference, as has always been the case at VIFF since 1982. The opening blurb states: "The ever-evolving VIFF Industry Days takes shape this year with over twenty dynamic events featuring 50+ experts, funders, and filmmakers who will generously share their knowledge and experience with us." But speakers are only listed for 3 of the 6 events highlighted on the website, and there's no online schedule for the 3 day forum that runs Oct 1-3 I filled in an application earlier and got a message back ... that they will respond in 10 days. The forum starts in 2 days! WTF is going on here? Have I missed something? https://viff.org/industry/

Blockbusters are bringing people back to theaters, but what about the art house titles? When polling audiences for CinemaScore, I noticed that the specialty audience is more likely to rent a movie on VOD than mainstream audiences. They stay home for the Indies and probably only see bigger specialty titles. That is too bad because they are missing out on many fantastic indie titles from studios like A24, Sony Classics, Oscilloscope, and Music Box that take longer to go to streaming than mainstream movies and go to more niche streamers. The best movies have the smallest audiences. Art houses should market their ambiance experiences and a place to watch harder-to-find titles. It will be interesting to see if people will watch PAST LIVES, Wes Anderson's ASTEROID CITY, or THEATER CAMP in theaters this summer.

#Digitaldisplay tip 3 for #Theatres! What is cosplay? And what does the cosplay market look like in Australia? Who profits from it? In this multimedia news feature, you can find some answers. 👇 During the S2 semester, this is my most satisfying H1-scoring assignment. I interviewed nearly 20 cosers, suppliers, event organizers, and professional scholars. It was hard work, but the rewards are truly gratifying. #cosplay #australia #coser
