We have acquired global distribution rights to powerful Ukraine war documentary, Hell Jumper, from BAFTA-winning Expectation TV. At the heart of the film is 28-year-old Chris Parry, a British man who, without telling his family, journeyed to Ukraine to join the so-called ‘Hell Jumpers’; an international group of civilian ‘evacuators’ who crowdfund vehicles and equipment to help civilians escape their war-torn towns and villages. Captured through extraordinary first-person footage and through the eyes of a group of volunteers saving strangers’ lives in one of the most dangerous places on Earth, #HellJumper is an unforgettable story of courage, passion, and loss. Ceire Clark, Senior Acquisitions Manager, International at Fremantle, said: "This is a remarkable tale of resilience and we’re looking forward to sharing this extraordinary and heart-wrenching story. Hell Jumper not only illuminates the bravery and idealism of youth in times of crisis but also underscores the power of love in the darkest moments. We’re delighted to be working with Expectation TV, and look forward to bringing this story to a global audience” Hell Jumper will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer this Summer. Fremantle will distribute the documentary internationally. Find out more 🔗 ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eWF9K7N7

The FT today provides a valuable review of films that seek to convey a more meaningful account of the impact of the Russo-Ukraine War on the lives of people living in Ukraine. Films cannot replicate the experience of being present in Ukraine to personally witness the violence and impacts on everyday life, but conventional reporting and snapshots on TV can distance people from the reality of the war. So these films go a long way to better communicating the human consequences of this tragedy. Apologies for posting as the article is behind a paywall. If you can't access this, the films are: 20 Days in Mariupol, In the Rearview, and Defiant:

The Kremlin is nothing more than a #troll and should be treated as such. Alexander Rojavin explains how #contentmoderation tactics from discussion forums in the 1990s and 2000s are applicable today, breaks down Russian meta-narratives with the help of a recent Russian #film, and considers effective counter-#disinformation tactics. https://lnkd.in/eDMN-EEC

"On the very same day when a russian rocket struck a crowded market in Donbas area of Ukraine, once again #killing and #injuring dozens of innocent civilians, the Israeli government signed a cooperation agreement in the field of cinema with the russian #propaganda perpetrators. At a time when russia escalates its attacks in Ukraine every day, taking the lives of innocent people, Israel is collaborating with this #ruthless country, well known for its cinematic endeavors aimed at spreading #war #propaganda. While the international community isolates russia to demonstrate that its actions are unacceptable to civilized society, it looks like Israel is offering additional platforms to the aggressive federation for the dissemination of their toxic ideas. Therefore, we call on the Government of Israel to finally realize that focusing on the injustice committed by the russian leadership, rather than signing doubtful agreements with them, is the right course of action. https://lnkd.in/d5TTwhpF"

In the wake of China's visit to #Europe, conversation around their role in European countries has grown. What does investment from #China mean for the continent's future? Check out one of our latest documentaries, "Tinderbox, Belt & Road: China in the Balkans", as it unpacks the perspective of locals, and offers more insight into how China's involvement is viewed on the other side of the Atlantic. https://lnkd.in/ghCkfsPt

I am happy to share that my article, "Past and future wars on TV: High-end drama series and national identity" is out in the latest issue of Journal of Popular Television. Here I discuss how two Norwegian drama series - The Saboteurs and Occupied - draw upon collective memory / cultural imaginations of WW2, albeit in different ways. The final draft was finished before Russia's attack on Ukraine. Although the argument of the article still stands, I have come to appreciate the war genre even more. https://lnkd.in/dSuZUYuk

Could Ken Loach's new film reshape our current polarised politics on migration? We see in the film the power of the camera to change the way that people see their world and view others in the face of hatred. We see the power of food to unite divided communities. We see the power of hospitality in the face of hostility. We see families from both communities caught in impossible situations. Read my full review here: https://shar.es/agaMM1

Engaging with Russian rhetoric in any manner that isn't mockery is an instant tactical loss condition. My latest on the Deft9 Solutions, Inc. blog explains how the Kremlin has remained strategically unimaginative in the #informationwar for over a decade, and how there is only a handful of effective counter-measures to neutralize a troll—which is exactly what the Kremlin is. #disinformation #film https://lnkd.in/eYCHsn_2
