As we start delivery in year two of our Change the Game programme, we would like to reflect and say a huge thank you to CQS and Independent Governance Group (IGG) With their help, not only did we complete the baseline research with around 3,700 children in the first cohort for our seven-year, longitudinal, randomised control study, but we also completed the first end of year survey with the same children. What brightens even the cloudiest January day, is the evidence in the baseline survey of the children’s interest and level of engagement with the subject. 80% of the 7 and 8 year olds we surveyed at the start of the programme last year said they know it’s important to know how much money they have, and 86% said they know that it’s good to look after their money. They know the difference it makes when you have it, and what happens when you don’t. They want to be taught. And we see that when we go into the classrooms. At RedSTART, we want to do all we can to ensure we’re not continuing to squander the potential of millions of children, year after year. We see the same children every year throughout primary school. By the time they leave, we aim to have the foundations in place and to have provided the basic skills and confidence these children will need to manage their money as young adults. National research shows that reading for at least 15 minutes per day can significantly boost students’ literacy growth — and family support is vital to ensuring students maintain a consistent daily reading habit. Springboard Collaborative, a nonprofit founded and led by teachers, is strengthening students’ reading support systems by connecting parents and teachers and equipping families with the tools and resources to coach reading at home. Exciting news for out-of-school time programs! The New York Life Foundation's Aim High grant program, administered by the Afterschool Alliance, is now open for applications until February 1, 2024. This initiative provides nationwide support to middle school youth programs, offering 20 one-year grants of $15,000 each and 20 two-year grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 per year. Aim High aims to empower local community-based after-school and summer learning programs, equipping middle school students with essential skills and guidance for a successful transition to high school. For 2024, grants will be awarded for programs focusing on racial equity, social justice, and youth entrepreneurship. If your program is dedicated to enhancing direct service activities, technical assistance, capacity building, and overcoming challenges in serving youth during and beyond the pandemic, this opportunity is for you.
