#Grateful for the rain! It helps the Malabar spinach take off in the garden. This plant is a popular leafy green vegetable with leaves and shoots that are edible and have a mild, slightly peppery flavor. It does well in our Southern Arizona summer. #growyourownfood #localfood #freshveggies #nuestratierragarden

Back on my Eat More Plants theme! One simple thing is to aim for a wider variety of plants. The more diverse the better. Every plant food is a little parcel of interesting nutrients and fibre compounds so the more variety over the course of the week means a the number of beneficial things you stack up is greater. Even variety within a theme - cabbage can be white, red, savoy, Brussels, green etc Peppers come in different colours and shapes. Different varieties of apples and grapes and oranges - not only do the different types have slightly different nutrients they also taste different and have different textures, giving more interest to your meals. #morecolour #moreplants #eatmoreplants

🫶 LET GO and LET GROW 🌱 The opening verse of the Tao Chi Ching. The first photo (taken 3rd May 2023) is my newly constructed veggie garden, turning an unused patch of dirt into the potential to come. Today (3rd August 2023), I have Long Beans 🫘 aplenty, Beef and Salad Tomatoes 🍅 heaving off their branches, Crunchy Cucumbers 🥒 for salivating salads, Strawberries 🍓that are branching everywhere and Parsley 🌿 that is adding punch to all our dinners. But whilst a successful veggie garden requires the right preparation and moderate tending to, it also needs time to be left on its own, to grow and ripen in due course. This can also be said for everything in our lives! So next time you are wishing for that big ambition, to hurry up and get here now. Just remember… 🫶 LET GO and LET GROW 🌱 #letgoandgrow #thoughtfortoday #motivationalmindset #growthhacking #compassionateliving

🌱 WONDERFUL WILD GARLIC is in season this month and it seems to be a good strong year for it too. We sourced and foraged this native plant (known as Creamh as Gaeilge) in a local woods that has it in abundance, so keep an eye-out when near woodlands or on walks in the country side. We bagged a decent sized bunch to make some WILD GARLIC PESTO and as always was blown away by its taste. Check out the vivid pea green shade of these jars filled with garlic goodness direct from Mother Nature. The recipe we used is one from Waterford's plant-powered GROW HQ : https://lnkd.in/e_PJhWA4 FYI- You’ll find lots more recipes online, via Jamie Oliver or Donal Skehan and in various cookery books too. They all have their own variations - Chef JP McMahon has one in 'The Irish Cook Book' where he puts an Irish twist on things by substituting cheddar instead of parmesan cheese and hazelnuts instead of pine nuts. We combined our bunch of wild garlic with some fresh parsley too and used cashew nuts instead of pine nuts. Just use your imagination or whatever's in your kitchen cupboard. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 👃🏻WARNING: before you attempt to forage the plant, be sure to double check that the leaves omit a smell of garlic by rubbing or crushing a leaf, you don’t want to mistake it for a similar looking plant that could be poisonous! ✂️ Cut leaves with scissors, do not pull leaves directly from the ground or damage the root ball. This is to ensure that the plant will grow again the following year. Please be responsible and do not over-forage. Always ensure you leave enough for others! 🌱 For info on plant identification see: Wildflowers of Ireland Website which has detailed photos: https://lnkd.in/ezTRRNcA __________________________________ #irishfood #foraging #wildgarlic #gogreen #pesto #foragedfoods #mothernaturesrecipes #plantsinseason

Vineyard Update: Fruit Set (🍷 WSET Wine Courses: https://lnkd.in/gpnMQv2D) After fertilization, the fruit begins to form 🍇. The fruit set stage follows flowering almost immediately, with the fertilized flower developing a seed and a grape berry to protect it 🌱. In the Northern Hemisphere, this happens in May, and in the Southern Hemisphere, in November. Not every flower becomes a grape, and unpollinated flowers drop off after the fruit set. If many flowers fail to fertilize, it's called coulure. Grapes that form without seeds and remain small are affected by millerandage. Both conditions can reduce yields due to cold, cloudy, or rainy weather during pollination. 🍷 WSET Wine Courses: https://lnkd.in/gpnMQv2D #wset #wineeducation #wineknowledge #napavalleywineacademy
