Barcelona’s 2023-24 Financial Report In terms of commercial success, Barcelona posted its highest-ever sponsorship revenues of €210 million, with an additional €105 million generated by its merchandising subsidiary, BLM. These figures underscore the global strength of the Barcelona brand, even as the club navigates its off-field financial difficulties. However, despite these gains, the club still recorded a net loss of €91 million for the season, highlighting ongoing financial struggles. A key contributor to these losses was a €117 million write-off tied to Barca Vision, a digital venture that faced a major setback after key investors, including the German fund Libero, defaulted on payments. Additionally, the club’s temporary relocation to the Olympic Stadium during Camp Nou renovations caused a €100 million drop in matchday revenue—an issue expected to persist until their return. In response to these challenges, Barcelona implemented cost-cutting measures, slashing its wage bill by €164 million to ease financial pressures and comply with La Liga’s financial fair play regulations. The club also generated €77 million in profits from player sales, including the departures of Ousmane Dembélé and Franck Kessié, though these moves underscore the delicate balance of raising funds while remaining competitive. La Liga’s strict financial oversight remains a key factor for Barcelona, as compliance with these regulations is essential for avoiding penalties. Looking ahead, Barcelona projects a modest €5 million operating profit for the 2024-25 season, though this forecast is contingent on several factors, including approval from its General Assembly of Delegates. In sum, Barcelona’s 2023-24 financial report shows a club in transition. While the strength of its commercial operations offers optimism, significant losses and ongoing challenges—particularly with matchday revenues and digital ventures—highlight that financial stability is still a work in progress. GeoJunxion BV is proud to announce a partnership with Club Brugge providing a custom-made digital map to assist them visualizing their new-to-be-built stadium and the mobility in the surroundings. Club Brugge wants to give residents in that area and supporters a better insight about how the new stadium will fit in the environment. Club Brugge is one of the best football clubs in Belgium. Their goal is winning competitions every year, such as the Belgian Pro League, the Croky Cup (Coupe de Belgique) and play in the European Leagues. Currently playing in the “Jan Breydelstadion”, which was built in 1975, Club Brugge intends to build a new stadium a few hundred meters southern, on the Olympia-site. The new stadium should hold 40.000 people and would qualify as fourth level, the highest UEFA stadium qualification. GeoJunxion BV developed, in collaboration with Wizzymaps, the digital map of the area around the stadium with all relevant Points of Interest (POI), such as parking spaces for cars and bicycles, press areas, visitors entrances, Public Transport, Blue Zone, routes and more. Thomas Rypens (DTC Director Club Brugge) said: “GeoJunxion contacted me before the summer to pitch their online digital and interactive map for our current stadium, that helps our visitors to find their way in and around the stadium up to their individual seats and gives them a better insight off all the important locations in and around the stadium. As we are in the middle of the process of getting the permits ready for our new stadium, we asked GeoJunxion if they could also make a map of the new situation that we could use for our neighbors of the stadium to give them insight of how the traffic will be when the new stadium will be built. GeoJunxion accepted this challenge and made a custom map in which they deleted the Jan Breydelstadion and created the new stadium including the new road networks.” Stef van der Helm, Enterprise Sales Manager at GeoJunxion: “We discussed the needs of Club Brugge with Thomas Rypens and concluded that our expertise would perfectly meet their requirements, to visualize the new stadium in a way that it is clear for everyone how the new mobility will be in the future. As soon as the stadium is built, it will be easy to add extra functionalities to the map, such as full outdoor and indoor navigation, adding important locations within the stadium, such as toilets, food courts, first aid, walking routes and, if needed, crowd control options.” Thomas Rypens continues: “Because of a tight schedule of less than three weeks, we worked very close together with the GeoJunxion’s team in collaboration with Wizzymaps to make sure that the map could be delivered on time. It was very pleasant for us to work with a dedicated team of professionals that make things happen. As a city, Sheffield isn't blessed with an obvious focal point. But for two weeks every year, in the run up to the May bank holiday, the World Snooker Championship takes centre stage. As Kyren Wilson closed in on a deserved victory in an improbable final, thoughts turned to how many more times the shepherdess trophy might be lifted at the Crucible Theatre. Barry Hearn has made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that sentiment will not cloud any decision on the future of The Crucible and has openly used his platform as a sales pitch to invite an offer from the highest bidder. History is vital to sport: it provides context and identity. Idiosyncrasies are what makes sport special. The Colosseum and Rome are inextricably coupled. Here's the solution: 1️⃣ 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 Retain the Crucible as Snooker's Centre Court, doing away with the two-table setup but preserving all of the atmosphere. Work with Sheffield City Council to build or identify a neighbouring venue (there is literally another theatre next door) to instantly double the number of tickets available and create a central tournament hub for fans. 2️⃣ 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Genuine fans will always miss out at an intimate venue. But make sure tickets are going to the people who attend by understanding your data. Nobody wants to see empty seats, which there were in every session. And yet try to buy tickets for 2025 now from Sheffield Theatres, having launched on general sale yesterday, and you'll find sparse pickings beyond the highest tier of hospitality. A failed rocket launch might be a good place to investigate untaken spaces. 3️⃣ 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 The WST should work with directly with players to identify what would help them perform at their best and feel supported. Fund improvements by selling the prestige of association with the historic venue to Eastern sponsors and consider backstage opportunities that Formula One harnesses so well to drive digital engagement by framing the sport around personalities.
