Uncover the "jean-ius" behind your favourite staple. 👖 Denim is the most popular clothing item in the world, with over 1.3 billion people owning at least one pair of jeans.* Despite its widespread use, denim production has a substantial environmental impact that raises serious concerns. Traditionally, denim is crafted from twill weave cotton fabric and dyed with indigo, giving them their iconic blue hue. However, denim production often relies heavily on water and harmful chemicals. Producing a single pair of jeans consumes approximately 7,500 litres of water from cotton cultivation to store delivery.** The positive? There are many denim brands already committed to finding solutions to reduce their impact by switching to alternative materials like recycled cotton, hemp and banana fibres. 🤔 What can you do: Look for jeans made from these fibres, as well as certifications (e.g. organic cotton), opt for high-quality jeans designed for longevity, buy second-hand, and look for made-to-order options to get the perfect fit.
