Great post by Ellen to challenge your assumptions on what is a military spouse!
Picture in your mind: a military spouse. What do you see? Take a moment to think about your assumptions. In your mind, the spouse is: 💭 Probably a woman. 💡Yes, 92% of mil spouses are women, but not all. 💭 Likely a parent. 💡Only 39% of military service members have children. (I find no data on how many spouses have children. If anyone knows, please share.) 💭 Possibly not employed outside the home. 💡85% of military spouses want or need to work. The reality is that #MilitarySpouses come in all shapes and sizes. 📌They are doctors, police officers, teachers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists, project managers, designers, and more. 📌They work in IT, defense, logistics, communication, finance, economics, human resources, and every other industry. 📌They may have security clearances, IT certifications, advanced degrees, professional licenses, and other qualifications. 📌They work at companies like Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Lockheed, Boeing, SAIC, Raytheon, Leidos, etc. 👉 Challenge your thinking. “Military Spouse” does not necessarily equal “stay-at-home mom.” As my friend Susan Lee said yesterday, “‘military spouse’ is an identifier, not an identity.” It’s Military Spouse Appreciation Month. Advocating for and supporting this group of people must first begin with understanding who they are. #MilSpouse #MilitarySpouseAppreciation

What an incredible program and opportunity for military spouses looking to gain valuable skills in the tech world!
🇺🇸 Introducing the Rosie Project! 🇺🇸 Applications open! Military Spouses are Shaping the Future of Tech Military Spouses serve right alongside our airmen and airwomen with every PCS, deployment, and TDY. The Rosie Project is dedicated to empowering military spouses to harness their potential through an Information Technology career, so they can advance alongside their spouse’s military career. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED NO PRIOR COURSES NO PRIOR TECHNOLOGY EXPERTISE OPEN TO ALL MILITARY SPOUSES PAST OR PRESENT The Rosie Project is a free-to-attend, 6-month, paid Information Technology internship program for military spouses (men and women). The project was built in partnership with Weber State University and Hill Air Force Base. Military spouses attend courses that transition to mission critical positions. During the program development, it was realized that for many childcare was a limiting factor. Especially, if there was travel or long commuting involved. In fact, to eliminate this concern we have ensured that daycare is provided for parents with young children on in-person class days.
