As Coinbase prepares for its earnings call today, I thought I'd share five relevant insights: 1. Last quarter, on-chain studies find that Coinbase received approximately 83,500 bitcoin from competitor exchanges—equivalent to winning around $5.5 billion USD of business. 2. Roughly 20% of all bitcoin exchange deposits are directed to Coinbase. 3. Total central exchange deposits at Coinbase decreased by about 50% compared to the previous quarter, but remained steady compared to Q2 last year. 4. Coinbase handles about 10% of all exchange spot volumes. 5. Last quarter, Coinbase's spot volumes for ETH and BTC exceeded $1 billion USD. Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN) has made headlines by returning to profitability in Q4 for the first time in three years. The company's stock saw a significant increase of 16.3% in Thursday after-hours trading, due to higher interest income from its stablecoin reserves amid a bull run across crypto asset prices. Coinbase's Q4 revenue of $953.8M beat consensus estimates, and the company is expecting even better results in Q1 2024. With transaction expenses expected to be lower than expected, Coinbase's subscription and services revenue is also predicted to exceed consensus estimates.
