We can all celebrate progress this #NationalDairyMonth as food and ag companies tackle their methane emissions! 🎉 In the past year we’ve seen BIG climate action as global companies including the Bel Group, Clover Sonoma, Danone, General Mills, Kraft Heinz, Lactalis USA, Nestlé and Starbucks joined the EDF-led Dairy Methane Action Alliance. ICYMI: The Alliance aims to drive down methane emissions in company’s dairy supply chains. Kudos to Alliance members for leading on responsible corporate stewardship, and our experts Katie Anderson and Vrashabh Kapate who spearhead our EDF team’s dairy efforts.👏 Why this matters: 🐄 Reducing methane is key to slowing global warming, and ~10% of human-caused emissions come from dairy. 👨🌾 Supporting farmers and companies helps ensure business continuity and supply chain resilience. 📝 By year-end, Alliance members will disclose their methane emissions and create action plans to cut them. But this is just the beginning! To all dairy companies: the call is out. Join forces to amplify change by signing onto the Dairy Methane Action Alliance. The Environmental Defense Fund is making big moves in the fight against climate change! 🌍💪 We at Metha AI are thrilled to see the EDF's leadership in driving methane reduction efforts in the dairy industry through the Dairy Methane Action Alliance (DMAA). With the addition of Starbucks and Clover Sonoma to the DMAA, alongside Danone , Nestlé, and others, the EDF is building a powerful coalition committed to accounting for and publicly disclosing methane emissions from their dairy supply chains. This transparency is crucial for driving meaningful action and progress. As the EDF emphasizes, cutting methane is the fastest way to slow the rate of global warming, and the dairy sector has a vital role to play. By working to ensure that every bite of yogurt and sip of milk has as low greenhouse gas emissions as possible, the DMAA is tackling this challenge head-on. At Metha.ai, we couldn't be more aligned with the EDF's mission and approach. Our innovative AI technology for optimizing methane-reducing feed additives is designed to support farmers and companies in their emissions reduction efforts. We applaud the EDF for its tireless efforts to bring together key players across the dairy value chain and drive systemic change. With the growing momentum behind the DMAA, we're confident that we can accelerate progress towards a more sustainable and climate-friendly future for dairy. 🌱🐮 #EDF #DMAA #MethaneMitigation #SustainableDairy #ClimateAction #MethaAI
BIG News: Momentum continues in driving down methane emissions as Starbucks ☕ and Clover Sonoma 🥛 sign onto the Dairy Methane Action Alliance (DMAA)! This powerful Alliance convenes companies with dairy in their supply chains to reduce methane from cows and move the needle on climate change. First announced at #COP28, the Bel Group, Danone, General Mills, Kraft Heinz, Lactalis USA and Nestlé launched DMAA with Environmental Defense Fund. Now with our new members, the reach of our climate impact expands! Why this matters: 🐄👨🌾 Cutting methane is the fastest way to slow the rate of global warming and ~10% of its human-caused emissions comes from dairy. In fact, methane pollution from 2023 will warm our planet more in the next 10 years than all the CO2 from fossil fuels in the same year. 💼💲 We can help farmers and companies bolster business continuity and supply chain resilience as the planet warms. 📝📉 By the end of this year, DMAA companies agreed to account for and publicly disclose methane emissions from their dairy supply chains and create a public methane action plan to drive down emissions. Through DMAA, EDF is working to ensure that every bite of yogurt and sip of milk has as low greenhouse gas emissions as possible as soon as we can! A dose of climate optimism! Kudos to our Dairy Methane Action Alliance member, Lactalis USA, who was highlighted in the Boston Globe Media for their efforts to drive down methane emissions in dairy supply chains. 👏 Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/egYSdM8k This work is essential: 🌡 Around 25% of the warming we experience today is due to #methane, which has 80x the warming power of CO2 over the next 20 yrs. A significant amount of these emissions comes from agriculture. This can and must change. ⏰ Early action on methane matters. Dairy cows and farmers are already feeling the impacts of a hotter planet. And recently, we’ve seen major climate momentum from global food and dairy companies joining the EDF-led Dairy Methane Action Alliance. By tackling methane emissions, we can see climate benefits right away! To learn more about EDF's Dairy Methane Action Alliance: https://lnkd.in/eeVxCeva

Did you know that by reducing food waste, you can significantly combat global warming? When food decomposes in landfills, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Simple actions like planning meals, storing food properly, and composting organic waste can drastically cut methane emissions. Moreover, reducing food waste conserves resources used in food production, such as water and energy, further minimizing your carbon footprint. Every small step in managing food waste effectively contributes to slowing global warming and fostering a healthier environment. This is by our Content and Social Manager Shaira Anjuman . Did you know that plastic production is one of the fastest-growing contributors to global warming? Through our Plastic-Free Reality program, we create partnerships to raise awareness among stakeholders, including government and private sector leaders, that we cannot just simply recycle our way out of this problem. We need to stop the problem at its source by demanding corporate accountability, pushing for policies that will enable the shift to more sustainable value chains, and ensuring a just transition for sectors that will be affected. Very thrilled to announce that Bel is spearheading a transformative initiative alongside other global food industry leaders – the #DairyMethaneActionAlliance. We understand the urgent need for corporate responsibility in the face of the climate crisis. In fact, we are strongly committed to contribute to achieve the Paris Agreement goals to limit global warming below +1.5°C. To do so, we are leading movement towards a new standard for environmental accountability in the food industry. In collaboration with the Environmental Defense Fund, we commit to transparently disclose methane emissions within our dairy supply chain and implement a comprehensive methane action plan to tackle the critical issue of methane pollution. Our target? Reduce by 50% in intensity greenhouse gases coming from dairy farms by 2035, especially through methane mitigation. Now, we invite all dairy industry stakeholders to join us in this crucial initiative. Let’s work together to be part of the solution against climate change! In a world grappling with climate change and environmental degradation, it is alarming to realize that a significant portion of our food ends up in landfills as waste. Not only does this waste valuable resources that went into producing the food, but it also exacerbates the global climate crisis. It is high time that policymakers and agricultural stakeholders worldwide start questioning the essence of destroying our environment to produce food that ultimately ends up in the dustbin. Food waste contributes significantly to climate change, primarily due to the methane emissions released as organic matter decomposes in anaerobic conditions within landfills. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential far greater than that of carbon dioxide. In fact, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that if food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases after the United States and China. By wasting food, we are not only squandering resources but also exacerbating the climate crisis and undoing the efforts made to combat global warming.
