Human Factors Engineer - Sleep Advocate - Navy League John Paul Jones Inspirational Leadership Award, USNI and SNA “Author of the Year” Awardee
Six years ago tomorrow, the Navy published one of the most consequential documents in decades, the COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF RECENT SURFACE FORCE INCIDENTS. It drove monumental policy changes in the Surface Navy, and is worth a review by all Naval Leaders. The attached article contains recommendations that have largely come to be implemented. In memory of those lost, this would be a good time to read CR - all of it - and reflect on where we are, take a fix, and apply its lessons to our current operations. https://lnkd.in/e_Dfxat

Read the latest column from Mark Norman, former Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy | Marine royale canadienne and Senior Defence Strategist with Samuel Associates. "We should feel very fortunate in Canada that we have the luxury of “choice” when it comes to how to build and “employ” armed forces; let’s not squander this enviable privilege by choosing the easy path to war-fighting impotence and further international irrelevance." Revamping off-peak and weekend ferry services can boost long-term ridership. ⚓️ #MaritimeStrategy #optimization
San Francisco Bay Ferry, which operates the Bay Area regional ferry system, is seeing a surge in ridership. The agency reported carrying 29,552 passengers during a recent October weekend — the busiest since it was established in 2007. Many riders hopped on board during the #FleetWeekSF celebration honoring the U.S. Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. Ferry officials also attributed the rise to the redesign of the ferry service 2 years ago that put more emphasis on off-peak and weekend service to attract more riders.

TODAY'S U.S. Navy Strength = 290 (deployable) ships and 336,978 Active Duty + 101,583 Reserve personnel 2023 Navy Strength 290 ships and 438,561 personnel (1,512 total personnel/total # ofships) We are no longer the same Navy - See anything wrong? Look at the "OVERHEAD" (excessive number of sailors) not assigned to ships today, versus our WWII wartime manning. No wonder there were only 1364 days (HST) between 12/7/1941 (Pearl Harbor) and 9/1/1945 (USS Missouri BB-63 - Tokyo Bay). (Footnote: more accurate assessments would be possible if we not only counted ships but Naval Aircraft both ships and aircraft provide supporting capacity for mission success) Vrckn
