“I’ve wiped the internet!?!” Today’s global tech outage has reminded me of the wonderfully brilliant Eddie Izzard’s sketch from many years ago “I’ve wiped the internet!?! … but I don’t even have a modem!” https://lnkd.in/eWy7D-xh Thinking about the person/people who pressed the button, that initiated the upgrade, which made the systems fail has brought Nuala Walsh’s recent #Nudgestock talk to mind. Referencing her book ‘Tune In’ she spoke about “decision friction” — deliberately interrupting your own thoughts before taking action or making an assumption-based decision. “It has the benefit of slowing you down and therefore giving you the luxury of thinking. It's like a speed bump for your mind.” My version of this idea is to practice flexing our cognitive awareness. It’s an idea we experiment with in my Activity Lab sessions and talks. Most of us won’t ever be in a position to crash the internet, but we can learn to think more consciously about the choices we make. . ********* 🔥 I run Activity Lab sessions. You may talk about your organization’s values, display them on the wall, and say everyone needs to have those values.  But what happens when an organization loses sight of its core values? It’s as the robot in Lost In Space would say: Danger, Will Rogers! You enter a dangerous arena when you proclaim values but fail to live them out. We spent hours together watching Joseph find incredibly creative ways of getting from A to B. And while they're ingenious and hilarious, they also illustrate how creativity and divergent thinking can land you in a fix some of the time... Do you sometimes find yourself inadvertently taking a longer route from A to B? You get on your way, and then somewhere down the line, things start to feel more complicated than you expected. You lose energy and enthusiasm. The truth is, divergent thinking can lead you down a more scenic and winding country road towards a goal. I get it. I hear you wondering why this feels harder than it should. I see you feeling deflated, and I'm sorry you feel that way. But don't despair! You see, I also see the beauty in your winding route. I see your unique approaches. I see the value in your amazing "Joseph's Machine Thinking". Because roadblocks often show up on the regular highway—on that straight route that everyone else takes. And then you're the one, with your divergent thinking, who comes up with an original and ingenious way to bypass the obstacle. Never forget that. In fact, I challenge you to think of a time when your round-about thinking got you or someone else out of a stuck situation. Go on— comment with a time when your originality or your problem-solving creativity served you...

Transformation happens when inclusive leaders lead!!

If there is a form in the thinking, there will be none in the solution.

"But you want to decouple the result from evidence that you’re doing the right thing, okay? So that’s how you kind of solve this problem of investing into something that’s very, very far away and having the conviction to stay on the road is to find as early as possible the indicators that you’re doing the right things. So, start with a core belief. Unless something changes your mind, you continue to believe in it. And look for early indicators of future success."
