CSEM's talent show #3: ⛵ The sea lover 🌊 Meet Cathriona McIntyre, at CSEM since September 2023: Cathriona, a passionate sailor and CSEM team member, discovered her love for sailing during her childhood in Ireland. “My father, a boat builder, decided to build his own boat one day,” she recalls. For Cathriona, sailing represents freedom and adventure. In May 2024, she and her family sailed near Elba, Italy, adapting to changing weather. She’s also completed the challenging journey from France to Ireland, crossing the English Channel. “Sailing requires planning and flexibility, key elements in my work,” she explains. “Freedom, planning, and interpersonal skills are at the heart of my passions.” #Sailing #Freedom #Planning #QualityManagement #Passion

Navigating successfully through bad weather, both in #business and at #sea, is what our #EMBA students learned last Friday. Here are a few insights into the #RoBe #sailing trip:
🌊⛵️ 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐂𝟑𝟎 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬! ⛵️🌊 Last Friday, our #EMBA class and alums had an unforgettable sailing adventure. Despite facing some adverse weather, we pushed through together and made the most of every moment on the #Thunersee. 🌧️💪 Just like in #business, we learned that waiting for perfect conditions isn't an option. It's about embracing the journey, working as a team, and steering towards success. Our experience on the boats was a powerful #metaphor— don’t wait for the perfect moment to start. Dive in, weather the challenges and head to new horizons with a supportive crew by your side. Keen to join our #RoBe crew? 👉 Great sailing ships return to the Baltic Sea ===================> One month from now, on 27 June 2024, the next edition of the regatta involving the largest sailing ships in the world - The Tall Ships Races - will begin. After 7 years, the "Birds of the Ocean" are returning to the Baltic to sail across almost our entire sea. ⚓ The route leads from #Klaipeda to #Helsinki, from there to #Tallinn, then #Turku, #Mariehamn in the #Åland Islands and the longest leg with the grand finale in #Szczecin, which will take place on 2-5 August 2024. ⚓ Although the full list of entered vessels has not yet been announced, it is difficult to expect that the two great Russian sailing ships - "Kruzenshtern" and "Sedov" - which have always been the highlight of this regatta, to take part in this year's event. ⚓ This will be the 5-th time that The Tall Ships Races finale has taken place in Szczecin. Previously, we hosted the event's finale in 2007, 2013, 2015 and 2017. The next final was due to fall in 2021, but was moved to this year due to Covid. ⚓ It is noteworthy that all finals in Szczecin had the highest attendance of all ports at the same time - the last final, in 2017, was attended by around 2 million visitors! The harbour in Szczecin is almost made for such events - the picturesque Wały Chrobrego and Łasztownia Island create a unique, nautical atmosphere. #TallShipsRaces #BalticSea #Poland #Scandinavia https://lnkd.in/e9fu6qG6 👇 The Tall Ships Races 2013 - final in Szczecin

We’re thrilled to play our part in making sailing more accessible to young people, especially as more women continue to stay involved in the sport than ever before. This past weekend, 84 students from 10 universities across Norway competed fiercely in the Student National Championship, racing the same J/70 boats used in the Norwegian Sailing League—proudly sponsored by Höegh Autoliners. The league format has been key in keeping more sailors active, even after they begin their studies. “It has opened up sailing for many young sailors who have moved away from home and no longer have their own boats,” says Per Christian Bordal of the Norwegian Sailing Federation. As Magnus Hedemark, project manager for the Norwegian Sailing League, adds: “The Norwegian Sailing League will celebrate its 10th season next year, but the real impact has been in the past three years. Without your support, none of this would have been possible. We wouldn’t have had so many young people or women joining the league.” “What you’ve contributed to the Norwegian Sailing League has, in many ways, saved the sport of sailing from modern challenges like time constraints, rising costs, and an aging demographic.” Höegh Autoliners has proudly sponsored the Norwegian Sailing League in partnership with the Norwegian Sailing Federation since 2022. This commitment reflects our dedication to a cleaner, more sustainable maritime future and our pledge to protect the seas we traverse. Our shared values with the Norwegian Sailing Federation, focused on ocean sustainability, make us proud to sponsor the sport, ensuring that more young people can experience the joys of sailing. #CleanSeas #SailingForSustainability #HöeghAutoliners #Sailing #Maritime SailLogic// Norges Seilforbund

Just coming to see live the Louis Vuiton America´s cup in Barcelona and thinking about this kind of competition comparing to daily life. You just see a boat here, with 8 people sailing. Really? There´s technology. A lot to make an AC75 fly 40-50 knots with just 10 knots wind. Yes: there´s no engine there. There´s a skilled team behind those 8 sailors supporting with tactics and logistics. You can't almost see them, it's a feeling once things change. There´s a common understanding of the target. Win the America´s cup. The oldest sailing trophy in the world. And each team competes for it. There´s motivation of the technical guys (the ones nobody sees) to work 24 hours non stop as soon as the boat falls from the crane and is smashed. However, nothing works without blind trust between all of them. Having Grant Dalton and Peter Burling just mentioning (almost grinsing) how good the guys are, and which miracles they can do is amazing. Those guys fixed a smashed carbon fiber boat within one day (and night). And the 8 guys performed the next regatta at full speed In my opinion, it´s the same in the industry and only few people really value and live those skills I mentioned above: For those living them, competing is a motivation to improve. For others, it´s just boring boats sailing. Anyhow, both worlds share the same: "There is no second"

The Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca was a whirlwind of learning and growth, both on and off the water. As sailors, we faced a constantly shifting playing field – variable winds demanding continuous adaptation of our racing style and strategy. This experience resonated deeply with the dynamic business world. Just like in sailing, success hinges on our ability to: 💡Read the Currents: Anticipate and adapt to changing market conditions. 💡Refine Our Course: Adjust strategies to maintain a competitive edge. 💡Embrace Continuous Learning: Seek new knowledge to optimize performance. The insights gained from competing amongst the world's best sailors will be invaluable as I navigate the rest of the sailing season, and beyond, into the ever-changing waters of business. #PrincessSofiaTrophy #Sailing #BusinessLessons #Adaptability #Strategy #ContinuousLearning
Carlos Silva on Instagram: "Thrilling week at the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca! The wind conditions kept us on our toes, forcing us to adapt and explore different racing styles. This event was a true eye-opener, showcasing the incredible talent competing at the highest level of sailing. So grateful for the experience and all the learnings I can take with me for the rest of the season
