📣📣📣Excited to announce that FluoRok is a finalist in this year's Startups for Sustainable Semiconductors!📣📣📣 Our founder & CEO, Gabriele Pupo will be pitching at the Sustainable Semiconductors session at SEMICON West 2024 in San Francisco on 10th July. If you are in the Bay Area, please come and see us! Currently, the first step to access any fluorochemical such as Li-ion battery electrolytes salts or fluorinated agrochemicals/pharmaceuticals, involves the conversion of high purity mined CaF2 (calcium fluoride, fluorite mineral) into HF (hydrogen fluoride), a highly hazardous, difficult-to-handle and toxic gas. FluoRok reinvents this centuries-old process, bypassing completely this dangerous intermediate to access fluorochemicals. Its innovative solutions lower CO2 emissions, reduce costs and enhance manufacturing safety. FluoRok leverages a large set of raw materials, including high and low purity mined fluorite, as well as fluorinated waste derived from the fluorochemical and semiconductor industry. By employing waste streams, FluoRok enables for the first time the circular economy in fluorochemical production. FluoRok enables greener chemical manufacturing and radically improves sustainability in the semiconductor industry by transforming challenging waste streams into high value materials.♻️ #SEMICONWest

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗗𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 The EDA industry is intricate and fiercely competitive, operating in a winner-takes-all market. The top 4 EDA companies dominate over 90% of the market, with 80% of their revenue coming from the top 20-30 customers. However, this doesn't mean there's no room for startups in EDA. Major EDA companies have built their empires by acquiring many small EDA startups. The complex world of EDA constantly sees the rise of innovative startups offering solutions that existing companies cannot. 🔹 Apache, founded in 2001, provided a groundbreaking solution to the increasing silicon failures due to dynamic voltage drops. This innovation was crucial for semiconductor companies to meet the growing demand for power and performance. 🔹 Similarly, in 2015, a small EDA company called Gear introduced SeaScape, the world's first big-data architecture specifically designed for electronic system design and simulation. This platform offered a highly scalable elastic compute platform with big data analytics capabilities. Ansys acquired both Apache and Gear, marking two of the most successful EDA acquisitions of the last decade. Ansys also made six EDA acquisitions over the past 15 years, establishing itself as a major player in the industry. I was fortunate to be part of Ansys throughout this journey and witness this success. This experience also gave me the opportunity to work with some of the veterans in the EDA industry, like Andrew Yang and John Lee. 🚀 The EDA landscape continues to evolve, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for innovative startups and established giants alike. #EDA #Innovation #Startups #Ansys #TechIndustry #Leadership

In my experience working with large scale global enterprises and start-ups, product teams having reserved time and budget for focused #innovation was always a challenge. The challenge stems from two polarized approaches: Sticking to incremental improvements to avoid risk, or focusing on high-risk transformational innovations that aim to disrupt industries. So what can be the middle ground? 🔥 One potential solution is the Growth Driver Model, a framework designed to bridge this gap. 🎯 GDM operates through 3 main stages: They are, 1️⃣ Identifying Innovation opportunities - Cordis, a medical device company, had a stagnant product line with annual revenue growth of only 2%. In 2021, Ajax Health partnered with investment firms Hellman & Friedman and KKR to acquire Cordis. They set up an off-balance-sheet accelerator called Cordis-X, with a $300 million R&D budget, focused on filling gaps in Cordis’s cardiovascular product #portfolio. Cordis-X then recruited engineers and innovators, enabling them to work on transformative yet incremental innovations that Cordis could integrate into its existing manufacturing and sales channels. Within 2 years, Cordis’s revenue grew to 8%, and the company introduced several new devices in the cardiovascular space. This model allowed Cordis to innovate without the burden of traditional R&D costs or the inefficiencies of #M&A. 2️⃣ Creating an Innovation accelerator In 2014, Blumhouse secured a deal with Universal studios to fund and distribute its low-budget horror films. Blumhouse operated as an independent accelerator, creating innovative films while leveraging Universal’s distribution and marketing power. This partnership allowed Blumhouse to innovate within its niche (low-budget horror) while scaling its business. Hits like Get Out and The Purge were produced for under $12 million each but earned hundreds of millions globally. By focusing on a middle-ground approach—incremental innovation within a proven formula—Blumhouse achieved massive success without the high-risk of producing #blockbusters or relying solely on #venture capital. 3️⃣ Developing the Innovations - SpaceX’s reusable rockets were a transformative innovation that disrupted the defense industry, yet the company also pursued more incremental improvements in #satellite technology and #space exploration. SpaceX’s approach attracted both government contracts and private investment, positioning it as a leader in both defense and space industries. By balancing transformational and incremental innovation, SpaceX was able to create a sustainable business model while avoiding the inefficiencies of relying on acquisitions. What's your middle ground?
