Food banks in the City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa are struggling to serve vulnerable populations amid increased demand. As a volunteer with St. Joe's Supper Table operating out of St. Joseph's Parish - Ottawa, I'm witnessing this firsthand. 📈 St. Joe's Supper Table is the only food bank serving Sandy Hill residents with a well-earned reputation for being Ottawa's smallest food bank with a big impact and an even bigger heart. We're seeing an unprecedented increase in people accessing our services. In 2023, 60% of registrations were from new households. A total of 1,111 individuals registered at the food bank in 2023, up from 728 registrations in 2022: a 53% increase. The number of visits to the food bank have been steadily increasing from 2023 to 2024. In May 2023, 267 individuals accessed the food bank. In May 2024, there were 529 individuals, including newcomers, university students and folks with full-time jobs. There's an urgent need for specific food items like coffee, sugar and canned meat, as well as baby diapers and menstrual products. 🥫 The Supper Table's manager, Kathleen Strader, spoke with 580 CFRA's Patricia Boal this morning about the challenges the food bank is currently facing and our upcoming Autumn Fundraiser. Give the party fund (how much went into account 🤗🤪🤔books???!!??) and take this post, position, Ministry, prime Land, Loans that need not be bothered about, Hospitals, Colleges, Cooperatives.......there could be a dictionary full of ways of how these funds could be used within India or even sent out?? On paper everything was legal, including #Appointment of officials, in every department and Ministry. Those who are judicious enough would understand, the extent and meaning of it. Those who can use their #Brain, those who can visualise the network, (as hinted in many OTT TV shows these days, can guestimate the volume of black money and its #IMPACT on the National Economy, and WHY so many foreign nationals take very keen and Extra interest in Indian affairs, happenings, policies, execution of our own Acts and future plans. NOW, every political party, be it a designated National Party or Regional party, WOULD NECESSARILY HAVE TO SHOW WHO THE DONORS ARE, and needless to say, the Donor's profile would be #observed. The #Khela or #Game of #BlackMoney in Economy and Politics is CLOSED. The ₹1000 garlands (the highest denomination then) and ₹2000 notes, that were often found on the neck of politicians, during election rallies and other functions, is now available only at some _Party Offices." Last year, there was a 38% increase in the number of people visiting a food bank in London many of those were working people, with 1 in 4 parents in London struggling to afford to feed their family.   The Appeal is match funded, and so every pound donated during the 36 hours will be doubled and 100% raised will be spent on essential goods for the food banks.   Helping may not change our lives, but it will change the lives of others.   Can we bank on you?
